Thread: Meth Addict...WORTH IT!

    Default Meth Addict...WORTH IT!

I had my car re-tuned on Sunday. The only change was installing a large Meth nozzle on the AEM injection kit. I had been running the small nozzle, and it was not enough.

On the small nozzle we managed to get 261whp@6700rpm/220tq@6100rpm at 19 psi.

This is on the Greddy TD04H-15G and a 1.6l.

With nothing but the added flow from the meth kit, power increased significantly.

    278whp@6700rpm/248tq@5500rpm at 17 psi

So gained 17whp/28tq from -2 psi.

There is still with room to make more, since we didn't ramp up the boost over 5.5k rpm, still letting it fall to 1 BAR by redline. This was a requirement for the small nozzle, since it didn't flow enough to hold the boost.

Did you put any more spark into it? I thought about putting water on my car but I'm so far back from detonation that it's probably not worth the cash.

Black is new tune, white is old tune.

I haven't had a chance to do any street clean-up tuning. I have logged one pull on the way to work this morning and it's hitting 1.3 BAR, and has a lean spot (14:1) at 4k rpm. No knock, so I know I'll be able to add more timing and lean it out a lot. Brice tuned it for 11:1 AF on the dyno, but I'm gonna aim for 11.5ish on my street tunes. I'm still hoping to break 300whp on the Greddy turbo. I am sure that if I can get it to hold 1.2 BAR to redline instead of letting it immediately start the fall to 1 BAR it will make the 20+whp I am missing. I'm hooked, NEED MOAR POWAH!!!

    Just a teaser:

    To

    = 261whp

    6-spd for FTW!!

    South on 360 from 121?

11.1 is soooo fat, but whatever works. Are these 9:1 compression pistons? What are your IAT's with the little pea-shooter? Your meth'd spark table looks like my 8.6:1 static compression spark table without meth.
I run this table on 91-octane:

260whp on a dynojet is fun in these cars, 295whp was scary. I think 245whp is just right and that's where I leave it.

    287 FTW.

I have the 9:1 pistons. The only IAT log I have with the new setup are from this morning. Logged 86F and it fell to 83F through the pull.

Does the AEM EMS control the flow of the meth? It's starting to get popular in the BMW circles, lots of people making 400+ whp with about 1K in mods (tune, meth, intake).

I am using an output from the AEM EMS to control it. I currently have it set to turn on at >2500rpm, and >1.24 Engine Load, and >20% throttle.

Is that referring to the 135i/335i cars? I looked it up when the 135i first came out, it was gonna be about $3k to get 400whp/500tq via secondary cat-delete, exhaust, and tune. I'm still considering the 335i as a nice daily whenever the wife gets her high-salary job with her new degrees. :P

Yep N54 cars so 135/335/535/Z4 etc. It'd take a lot of boltons to get to 400 whp without meth or nitrous (intake, tune, catless downpipes, exhaust, fmic, charge pipe). Now people are getting a tune and a $500 meth kit and hitting 400 whp for about 1 grand. The instant torque is pretty nice for daily driving but it handles like a boat compared to sports cars.

I removed my wiper fluid motor, and it's tank, so it's pretty much the same amount of parts as before. :P

I'll save my 1000cc injectors for when I make big power, not when I want to make 350whp.

Good to know. I prefer the 335 to the 135 due to the height of the 135. Lower roll center FTW!

I had 1000cc injectors making > 350 whp on corn....

In any case, my experience with meth has been "boom goes the dynamite" when the pump or controller fails (or tank leaks on the track) and the ECU doesn't know and the engine doesn't like that. At least with corn it's simpler. Alcohol in... torque out

That's why you have a knock sensor....and your ear. Hear knock, stop applying pressure to the thin pedal. I'm also not limited on having a special gas station within range if I ever go on a trip. I just finished doing almost 30 dyno pulls on Sunday, and went thru 1/2 gal of meth. I have a 5 gal tank. On the small nozzle I did almost a yr (12k+ miles) on it and never had to fill the tank.

With JB4 the failsafe is built into the tune so no meth flow and it backs everything back down to safe pump gas levels.

What computer are you running? Does it have a "pre-ignition even knock window"? I know AEM does? I've been itching to buy MS3 and try out the code for this which a friend wrote.

Outside temp was 84F during the run. This shows how effective the Meth kit is at bringing down intake temps. This was after sitting in a parking lot for about 5 min while I was adjusting the tune, then logging another pull in 4th gear.
