Angry Netflix customers see red after price hike

My fiance was just talking about Netflix the other day since our local Blockbuster has a terrible selection, especially for Blu-rays. That article kind of makes me glad I've refused to sign up for so long.

It does suck I must say!

We currently do both DVD's and streaming but may just cancel it all just out of spite.

I was just starting to really use Netflix streaming, but I may pull the plug on Sept. 1 when they jack up the prices.

Redbox is looking like an alternative, but I've never checked their movie selections.

I also just read about something called TVDevo, but don't know much about it yet.

Got the email last night and I just dialed my Netflix back to streaming only, since I don't order DVD's that much.

I refuse set foot inside a Blockbuster ever again. Ten years ago they pissed me off for the last time so I told the pimply-face manager of the Forest Lane store to take my membership card and shove it straight up his ass.

I am thinking the same.... I think it is like a ~60% price increase for me. No thanks.

There are about 4 Redbox..es(?) the same distance from our house as the local Blockbuster. We've only rented a normal DVD from one once, just because they are always out of ANY Blu-ray, let alone the good ones. Naturally, your area may vary considerably.

LMAO. I used to love them when I was in NJ, but mainly because a friend worked there so I never had to pay and could get movies unofficially held. Unfortunately they are the only movie rental place under 20 minutes from us out here. I really only say unfortunately because, again, their selection is absolutely terrible. Especially their Blu-ray offerings. The people that work at our local one are actually all very nice, they bend some rules fairly easily, etc. And now their pricing is finally sane again.

How do you know what kind of acct you have? I did the free PS3 30 day sign up trial and put in my CC, after the trial I decided to just keep it at 7.99 so I didn't do anything. I've only streamed and didn't see a way to even order a physical DVD online or on PS3/iphone app. Do I just have the 7.99 streaming service now?

Sign into Netflix.com and click on "Your Account" at the top right. Sounds like you've got the $7.99 streaming plan, though.

From what I understand, the studios are increasing the rate that Netflix pays to them for streaming movies to 10 times the previous amount. I don't know about you guys, but I would have to increase my customer rates, too, if I was running that business.

Looks like it. Your pricing won't change then.

Heaven help me.... I'm with POS.

If, and this is a huge IF, their streaming selection was better I wouldn't feel too bad. But, for the most part, their selection sucks. We use Netflix 80-90% of the time for my kid. The DVDs we get are kids dvds. The steaming? Kids shows. I'm not going to pay $16 a month for him to rot his brain some more.

We'll likely cut back to streaming only simply because he can watch kids shows and we don't have a DVR in the traditional sense.

I've heard the same thing, but did you see the email that Netflix sent out? The email basically said "to make it better for our subscribers you get to pay 60% more for the same service!"

I think that the community would be on Netflix's side if they'd said "our costs are going up 10x, so we have to raise prices, this is the lowest we could do and stay in business, we're sorry."

So, let's just say it's greed. We do not like Netflix because they are greedy and charge too much. However, we don't like Walmart because they charge too little, which drives out other businesses.

But, yet, you seek out couples on the way home from a pleasant meal and try to race them.
