Thread: RF Launch Edition

  1. #1

    Default RF Launch Edition

A work buddy of mine visited the dealer thinking "maybe a Miata." He decided he liked the RF better than the convertible and was thinking *maybe* it would be a good car to get, although he wanted to ask around, do some more checking, etc. The salesman told him that they had an RF Launch Edition coming and the buyer had backed out, so if he wanted that one, he could have it. My buddy went ahead and put down the (refundable) deposit and is waiting on it to come in.

I'm thinking there must be people out there who would kill for one and my buddy got one by saying, "Eh, okay."

Maybe they (Mazda) aren't moving them like they expected? Money talks.

Don't seem to sell at the rates they did in the past:

Tough (for me, at least) to justify over $30K for a Miata.

That's how I got my 25th Anniversary Edition NC. I didn't order it. Someone backed out, and I found it on the dealer's showroom floor, up for grabs with 1.7 miles on the odometer. I wasn't even looking for a Miata. That was a happy day for me.

Does that say more about you or the car?

I hope those changes do some good. I have always been puzzled that Mazda's products are so good and their sales are so bad. They rank in the top of comparison test and pretty much everything they make, but they are darned near last in sales.

It seems cars in general have jumped up in price in the last decade.

They have, no doubt. $25K is 'cheap' these days.

$34k-$35k for a new RF GT is about the same as an inflation adjusted 1989 Package A with HT, AC, and LSD so that's not to bad IMHO considering the other improvements in miata over these past 27years.

I still have the window sticker from Delray Mazda, Delrey, FL for my '94M. The sticker price was $21,250.00 plus $395 for inland freight, total $21,645. There were no add on options.

Interesting...I have a new RF launch edition on preorder coming this month...trying to decide whether to purchase it. I owned a mx3 and miata in my college days 1990's loved them both, so the new hardtop RF launch edition is so cool that I ordered it when they offered me the chance. It's super good looking car...I test drove a regular 2016 miata a few months ago, drives super nice.
