Trailer Inspection??
At least ya got a warning!
I got pullled over by the Barney Fife of Krum on Sunday. It was 6AM and not a creature was stirring except me and Barney. My trailer lights were out. The plug wasn't fully inserted in the recepticle. Once I pushed it in everything started working. He then prodeeded to tell me I must have a trailer inspection tag on my car trailer?!? I've never heard of that. He said all trailers must have an inspection sticker. Then he ran the tags and found my trailer was registered at 4000 lbs and he estimated that my Mustang on the trailer weighed more than that. I told him it was 3250# but he said "I already looked it up and it is listed at 3800#. 3800# my butt. Anyway, He wrote me a warning for carrying a load in excess of the registered weight and for not having an inspection sticker on the trailer. He made me 20 minutes late for my target arrival time at the autocross.
I looked it up and trailers which gross over 4500# are required to have an inspection. The registration fee is the same all the way up to 6000#. Registration is due in August and I'm going to register at 2499#.
The stinking "know it all" cop even started to tell me what rules an autocross club should have for trailers on the premesis. Somebody is getting a dirty letter, my taxes don't pay for a Krum cop to lecture me on how to run my business in Bedford.

Sounds like the city is fishing for money. Cops I know don't care about whats on a trailer as long as it's safely secured to said trailer. No telling how many other folks rolled though that town that day with a trailer full of junk held down with some freaking twine just waiting to fly off at folks like me who ride motorcycles :/

Looks like if the trailer is rated over 4,500lbs you have to get it inspected..... Link - http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/insp...classsubmit=Go
Interesting...I've been stopped in Krum on two occasions going to ECR. Both times for no front plate and the officer thought that I had more than 400lb on my 400lb registered tire trailer with the tool box. I literally walked around and deadlifted the trailer and he insisted that I deadlifted more than 400lb, cold. For the record, my DL is just now breaking 335lb. He then told me that my car wasn't built to pull a trailer and although legal, he didn't recommend it. lol I bet it's the same, bored cop.
TXMC: Drinkin, shootin, racin!
Were you pulling a car trailer with the car on it?
Or were you pulling a trailer behind your car?
That is what I was trying to clarify.
The reason the officer gave you a ticket for over the registered weight is because he took the normal weight of the car (3800 lbs) + the weight of the trailer (probably 1600 lbs) and added them together. That is clearly over the 4K lb registered gross weight for the trailer.
Even with your car weighing only 3250 lbs that gives you a maximum trailer weight of 750 lbs before you exceed your registered gross weight. I bet your car trailer wieghs more then that.
Texas has been cracking down on trailer registrations and loads the last few years. A friend of mine was coming back from Las Cruses New Mexico a few years ago pulling a highly modified Jeep on a trailer registered for 4K lbs behind his Diesel pick which was only registered for 8K lbs.
He got a ticket for the following: No inspection on the trailer, over the maximum registered weight on the trailer, over the maximum registered weight for the truck and load not secured properly.
The officer folowed him for a distance as he ran the plates on the truck and trailer. He made them follow him 50 miles to a TXDOT scale to be weighed. Made them sit in the truck while it was being weighed. Total was over $700 in fines.
This is what happens when you think the rules do not apply to you. Just obey the laws that are out there and you will not have a problem.
Barney Fife had nothing better to do. He proceeded to lecture me on how Equipe Rapide in its best interest should pass safety rules to inspect trailers prior to letting them on site. He not only is an expert on the law but on running an autocross club and a 501(c)4 non-profit. Hey friggin moron.. Give me a ticket or STFU and get out of my way.

POS you are correct. I did miss that in his email. The way he was going on I just thought he was given a ticket. In that case it seams that he got of lucky with just a warning. If the officer was indeed being a PIA he could have written him tickets for several things.
back when i was 17 my girlfriend at the time lived in Krum, i was ALWAYS terrified driving out there at night because my car was: 1. loud and had no cat. 2. out of date inspection sticker. 3. a honda civic. 4. no front license plate and 5. because i was in Krum.
Krum must be the most miserable place to be at all times i swear. its like you sneeze and you are through there and there is like 1 major intersection in the town... no shit the cops are bored.

We bought property out towards Eagles Canyon and will be building a house soon. Our child already goes to Sanger ISD because we didn't want her in school here.
The same cop pulled me over in the Datsun last year and hassled me for an hour. I was just pulling it out of the driveway to load it on the trailer in the street. It had my deceased fathers Purple Heart license plate on it as a tribute to him. The cop pointed out the Hoosier slicks that say "not for highway use", the lack of a windshield, horn, wipers, bumpers, and even hassled me over the Simpson 5 point harness which wasn't a "Factory" seatbelt. He didn't give me a ticket then either, just wasted my time.

At least there isn't much crime. A drunk guy did knock on my door one night and ask me to get the keys to my Mustang for him. If I had only had my video camera I could have been on Worlds Dumbest Criminals. I told him to get lost with shotgun in hand. You don't mess with folks Mustangs in rural Texas.

typical Krum cop, has nothing else to do so they have to entertain themselves in one way or another.
Awwww sounds like Johnny Law has a man crush on nomadtrash. Isn't that just precious!![]()
Lol cops...
Krummy cops love trailers.
There's one pulled over almost every time I'm in town.
I'm surprised they have not gotten my stock trailer with a steer contained therein.
