Thread: Building starter panel

    Default Building starter panel

Wanting to build a panel similar to the one linked http://www.kgworks.co.jp/eng/4c12b.htm < there but don't want to blow 150 bucks on it and want to use a different set of switches anyway.

Question I have for the great folks here is has anyone done this and know what wires I need to hook into under the steering cover? I know there are some connectors down there that handle most of this and I'd seen at least one diagram at one time but cannot find it now and I can't access the pointy board though my work computer I would need to get the wires for the starter, ign, and accesories. And I suck at reading wiring diagrams out of the manual. Guess I need to get better at that too lol.

Yeah we're really busy today lol.

Alright I found a wiring schematic of the Ignition switch and sat down and forced myself to do some learnifyin'. Seems that I should be able to do up a switch panel with a hidden kill switch for the times I do happen to drive it to town for whatever reason.

There should be 6 wires going into the back of the switch connector. Two of them are the same color and they are both white and are hot wires (B1 and B2).

The Acc is a blk/wht wire which is supplied power from "B1".

Ignition 1 is Blu and is powered also from "B1"

Igntion 2 is Blk/Red and is powered from "B2"

Start is a Blk/Blu wire and is also powered from "B2".

All the switches will be toggle switches with the start toggle as a momentary on, with a red flip safety cover to prevent accidental activation.

110 dollar cheaper than the unit from Japan and that's without shipping.

Cool - and at least now, you're not just talking to yourself! Are you replacing the instrument cluster too or just the ignition? You going to make it look like the one in the link? I was in a DQ in Ranger the other day and all the cabinets were stainless with swirls (turned, machined, ???) anyway, I like the look.

I'm used to talkin to myself I mostly just ramble :P ha.

No it won't be like the one in the picture, I didn't like the switches and button in it and I didn't like the box it was in either. I'll be ordering the parts tomorrow and I'll have the airframes shop at work cut me a piece of aluminum to use as the panel to fill the space in below the radio. It's just empty right now so I think that will be a good place for it. I MIGHT put a boost gauge in there with it because there is going to be a lot of extra space with just 3 switches in it but I might not because it's WAY out of the line of sight when driving.

I'll probably wind up spacing the switches out evenly across the plate and use my far left vent for the boost gauge.

I'll do a picture/video when I finish that small part up and get it in the car.

All I see is black on black... good look, but it might be hard to find the switches

For some reason, your post says done followed by a large black square where a video might be. It could be that we still haven't upgraded from IE6. Apparently, cone-cerned can see it.

My employer just upgraded us to ie 7....Its not much better, but at least it has tabbed browsing. I feel your pain.
