Thread: Battery Light coming on intermittently

Keep in mind chances are good your old alternator isn't charging the battery so you only have so much reserve available in the battery before the car leaves you stranded. Be careful!

May sure you carry your jumper batter pack with you, if you have one, until you have it fixed. That was how my son got home from North Park to Rowlett. In the mean cut out all non essential electrical draining things, like radio etc.

+1... Don't necessarily trust the idiot light. I quick multimeter test would tell you if the alternator is working. It could just be a loose belt... maybe. Just sayin...

I dont know how to do any of this testing...will autozone test for these things or will they just say its the alternator? I have had a couple issues with sensors and things/burnt wires recently...but the only indication really is the light and the windows going up/down very very slow...havent noticed any belt noise...I guess I'll go over to autozone and see what they say...

O'Reilly carries Bosch, Beck-Arnley, and AC Delco - all good brands IMO.

NAPA carries Bosch and whatever their NAPA Pro line is - probably a decent bet as well.

All Import Auto Parts near my folks has one of their MPA rebuilds in stock.

When we swapped alternators on Gab's car a while back, I think it was whatever AutoZone had in stock. As far as I know it's still holding up just fine. IMO, you just pay more for a longer warranty - they're all rebuilt anyhow.

I think AutoZone has a test contraption on a buggy they'll roll out to your car. They should be able to test it in the parking lot... I think.

Can't you take it to TrackDog you know they can be trusted!

They may even have a preowned alternator that may help the budget.

Hopefully TDR can help you out. Don't buy the rebuild from Autozone. Get it from O'Riley instead. Rebuilds from AZ is trash.

My alternator bit the dust this week.l It had over 200K miles on it, but I think the heat did it in!
