I just switched to Sprint two days ago and picked-up an Evo 3d...the navigation is awesome. Apple lock-down = fail

I'm pretty sure Verizon has the VZ navigator available for the iPhone. Not that that helps you any. I want to say the lady asked us if we wanted it on our iPhone 4s this last weekend (I hate Apple too, but kind of had no choice), so there's at least something available for the phone itself.

Is Google Navigation an internet thing or an app? I'll see if Verizon has it. I am pretty sure someone mentioned that they have it on an iPhone. Jailbroken maybe? I never cared about iPhone crap till just now...I feel like a 90 year old woman trying to use this thing right now.

I'm sticking with my car GPS though, as the phone dies in a few hours just playing games and crap, so I can't imagine it'll last all that long in the car (I have no desire to buy/build a car adapter for it).

Also audio directions goes thru bluetooth headset if using. Basically made my Garmin obsolete.

Thanks for the suggestion on MotionX - I was looking for something with voice guidance to use in our upcoming cross country road trip. I'll let you know on Monday if I like it or not.

You can always jailbreak the iPhone and download one of the actual navigation apps? I know TomTom or Garmin makes an app that you can buy or get for free if you mess with the iPhone :)

Jailbreak is the plan for better apps, and won't get you in trouble. I'm also wrestling with the iphone/att or droid/virgin/boost conundrum myself. We are totally out of contract on our phones, but I do love my iphone, so I just called ATT with another "please cancel my service" call, got routed to Customer Retention again, and they took my family share plan down to $75 total for the next 6-months with no contract (1400 minutes, 2gb data on the iphone, wife has a dumb-phone)

I really want to make the move to Boost (Sprint network is good, same as Virgin, but Boost gives you a $5/line discount for paying on-time every 6 months up to $15/mo), but I can't bring myself to pay $250+ for a phone that will be comparable to iphone.

I still advocate in favor of the new generation of pre-pay services. If I ever quit my ATT habit, that's where I'll go. They just keep giving me free crack...

I disagree... I used Sprint forever. Went through a slew of androids over recent years.

Went to ATT on an iPhone 4s earlier this year... Glad I made the switch. 4s is faster on ATT than either of the 2 4g phones I had on Sprint.
