Thread: Increasing my cooling capacity.

  1. #1

    Default Increasing my cooling capacity.

I'm working on trying to get the cooling system as it sits now to cool effectivly on days like we have been having. I can't run my AC at freeway speeds for long before the car starts to get warm. When I bought the car two years ago it didn'thave the facotry "airguide" or "belly pan". I'm thinking of either getting the replacement parts either though a salvage yard or new, or going to lowes getting some pastic sheeting and making my own.My first question in this thread (I'm sure I'll come up with more as I go) is for those of you with the TDR intercooler did you remember having to remove the facotry air guide or belly pan (lower engine guard) permantly during isntall? It's been a while since I've put all that in and I can't remember what the directions said and with moving around I've lost them in transit somewhere. I've still got the ducting plastic that came with the TDR but I would like to reinstall the belly pan piece to keep water off of the belts and out of the engine compartment better, and put an airguide in it if it can even go in with the TDR stuff in it.Thanks for any guidance.

Best way is just to leave the Miata at home in this weather.

Thanks to HudsonHawk, I have the TDR radiator cowl, PWR aluminum radiator, Spal aftermarket fans. The car never gets hot in traffic. It actually runs cooler with the AC on and both fans running. The fans are a little noisy, but they cool really well in the heat.

Are you asking if your car is supposed to have a belly pan with a TDR intercooler?

I'm pretty sure its sopoused to it hasn't had one since I bought it po must have took it off. My main concern was the "air guide" that goes between the bumper and rad that wasn't their either lol.

You have to replace the factory air guide with some panels provided by TDR, but the belly pan stays in place. Good luck finding either one used and in good condition. BTW you need the air guide to make sure air doesn't flow around the radiator.

You can find brand new ones for about 60 bucks. Which if it helps the cooling is worth it to me. I've got the TDR pieces on it (most of them anyway) so I'll just track down a new belly pan and put that on there.

Mazda calls it an under cover, the part number is NA01-56-111F for my '94. Should be the same p/n for your '92. The about $60, ($67.70), is from a dealership. Finish Line has them for $59.95.

There's where I've been getting a lot of my replacement parts is Finish Line. I've got the undertray added to my wishlist now waiting to go into the cart.

I currently don't have the number of autoxes on the books for the past year to do that. At least I can't find all of my times and what not lol. I actually put in for the program early last year and forgot about it and ran out of time. I really need to put back in for it. My account is still sitting at "awaiting approval" I think lol.
