Thread: Places to sell DVDs in the area?

Default Places to sell DVDs in the area?

I have ~380 DVDs that could stand to be sold/traded for Blu-rays. Is there some kind of store in this general area that buys used DVDs from people? Back in Florida, NJ, and NY, there were Movie Galleries and other places that would buy them from you - usually only a buck or two each, some like 50 cents, some they'd give you $10 for...and if you paid into their little club thing you'd get an additional 10%. I know Movie Gallery went under last year some time, so that's obviously not an option. But is there anything similar out here? Maybe little mom'n pop type stores that say they buy/take on trade DVDs?

I'd rather not sell them a few at a time on craigslist since it'd be more time/gas money than it's worth since I'm way out here in Haslet. I'm not going to register for our community garage sale just to sell these either. If I can't find a place that will buy most/all of them, I might see if I can add them to a friend's garage sale crap, but I'd still rather get rid of as many as I can in one shot. Mailing them to some online place will probably cost more than it's worth.

I'm not looking to get like $10 each movie here (I would LOVE that though). In fact, I'm down to trade them all for however many Blu-ray discs I can get. Really just looking to free up closet space and add to my Blu-ray collection. I just built 6 shelves in my office closet for all my cased movies, and they are practically full already..so I need to start moving the DVDs out so I can fit more Blu-rays.

This is what I'm working with:

So any suggestions on where to sell/trade would be awesome!

I've also got about 500 CDs that should probably be rehomed too...but those are all in boxes in the garage somewhere - I'd be shocked if they even work anymore.

I sold some off at the Movie Trading Company, but I got jack shit for them. You might try half.com. Set 'em all up, go get a bunch of DVD mailers, then stick 'em in the mail when they sell. A friend of mine did this a while back and got decent money for a bunch of old books, CDs, DVDs, VHS, etc etc etc.

Well, even 50 cents each would get me $150+ which is a few newer released Blu-rays or about a dozen blu-ray classics. The convenience of offloading them all at the same time would be fairly worth it to me. So I'll have to check this Movie Trading Company out, thanks.

If it gets to the point that I have to sell them off one by one, half.com and amazon.com were on my lists, but I really don't have any desire to go through and list that many movies right now. If I have no choice later though, so be it.

Thanks, Titus and onething. I'll look into both.

And now that I think about it, I don't know that I've ever actually been in a pawn shop before...that might be worth a few trips just to check out.

So I hear. There was a used tool shop down the road from where I worked in Florida. They bought, sold, and traded tools. I guess you'd call that a pawn shop of sorts. I went in there a few times. But actual pawn-pawn shops, I can't remember ever going in one. I probably have when I was a kid and just don't remember.

I don't think I'd be so worried about selling/trading it all if that was the case.

I might. I honestly don't know what I have any more. Well, I take that back. I know I don't have it in a case, seeing that I just alphabetized them when I put them on the shelves the other night. I might very well have them not in a case, but I stopped keeping track of those when they hit the ~250 mark. It'd take me forever to go through all the ones in binders and sleeves.
