What do you guys say? Kellers in Dallas?
Could some one please bring a timing light (Rick). I would like to check my timing.
Thanks

Sure would be nice to have closer to 35 location, but we've beaten that horse before.

Mick, I anoint you as the Leader Of The West Side... if your people wish to host a gathering in an exotic location such as "Denton" or "Fort Worth" or "Grapevine," then you should appeal to them and request attendance from the East Side. Long, long ago, we had a near-weekly meeting of the East Side and the West Side at a place known as Angelo's. They served smoked meats of many varieties and ice-cold beverages called beers. And lo, there was ice floating atop said beers. And both sides came together, and there was much rejoicing. And much screwing off.

^ Why bother Westsiders don't seem to go out after dark anyhow and many are whiny little bitches that whine when someone else does attempt set something up if it doesn't meet there exact specifications.
I feel the westside is a lost cause. It is like herding cats.
Plus I was the Westside Tech Day and social outing guy in years past. I have served my time and hosted my fair share of stuff it is time for someone else to step up to the plate.
You guys got a good thing on the Eastside just run with it!![]()
I was going to bring up the 9PM west side curfew but POS beat me to it.
I'm not saying to try to take away from that at all. I'm saying try to get something going to supplement that for those of us that are almost an hour away from Keller's. If I had the free time (and it lined up with having a running car) I would hit Keller's about once a month. I went once already, and enjoyed it. But I can't be staying out till 1 or 2am in the middle of the week during a semester every week. If there was one remotely around Denton, it would probably start getting busy just as my classes are over, so it'd work out perfectly. And seeing that I have noticed 3 or 4 other non-stock Miatas taking night classes the same nights I am, I'm thinking that's not the most unusual schedule ever.
Has anyone tried to set something up?? I remember a cruise that was semi-local that looked like it had a decent turn out.
And no, I'm not stepping up since I don't have the slightest idea where stuff or people are. And I'm the new guy, so most people just ignore me.But I have offered to have tech days at my house a few times already, so I have tried a little bit.
Here is the deal: people have continually whined about Kellers and possible alternatives for as long as Kellers meets have existed. The solution is simple (and some people have done this from time to time): find a place you'd like meet-up, pick a day/time, and post it on the forum. Nobody is going to be upset if you conflict with Kellers; the people who go there like it and it has proven to be a great spot for car-oriented hanging-out.
If you can get more than 2 or 3 people to show-up to your meet, you have succeeded! The whole point of meet-ups is to socialize and have fun. You don't need it to be official to have that happen. What I think you will find is that getting a large group of relative-strangers to hang out in some bar or restaraunt doesn't work to well, and Kellers does because the thing we have in common is our cars, so being around the cars makes it work. On the few occasions I've attended a meet somewhere else, I've been sittign at a table with 1 or 2 people I know and watching small groups have separate conversations.
Good luck!

I'm still not even used to the idea of not driving at car meets. In the 3 states I've lived in before Texas, we actually had cruises, then we would all hang out (and more would show up) after we were done driving around. So even the idea of just hanging out around cars at Keller's is an odd concept to me - eff even considering going inside a restaurant/bar to hang out the whole time - for the exact reason you mentioned. And again, me not knowing where things are in the area is a huge hurdle for me to even attempt to get something going. If I had the time to scout out areas, I'd have the time to go all the way to Keller's.
I've owned at least one "enthusiast" vehicle for 14 years now, so I know full well how hard it is to organize meets/cruises/whatever. I am also downright shocked that a weekly one-model car meet has stayed so alive for 6 years. Props to you guys on that one - that is unheard of to me.
And for the record, I'm not whining about Keller's at all. I actually really like how it's set up, as it's about as perfect for car gatherings as you could get. Like I said, if the stars lined up I would go more. I'm just saying it'd be nice to have a meet closer, that's all.
OK, here is a try.
This Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012. Meet at 2pm at the Sonic on W. California street in Gainesville, Texas. I will lead a 2 hourish cruise, well below 100mph, and end at The Center in Muenster for an early dinner.
If it's just my wife and I, that's OK. I love Paprika Schnitzel.
