Thread: Does this look stupid?

    Default Does this look stupid?

I have an opportunity to get Recaro's from a Fiesta ST that was Tboned. The drivers side seat is perfect but the passenger side is bent and may not be something I'm willing to or able to repair... I really only care about having a seat for me anyway...

    2 Questions:

    1) Does this look stupid (pic is from a ford demo where they were letting people compare the seats)?

    2) Would swapping the stock drivers seat for a Recaro take me out of the stock class in autocross?

I thought I would ask here since you guys know your autocross (and if I posted it on a FiST forum, someone would snatch up these seats immediately since the price for the fronts and the rears is about what I would be willing to pay just for the driver's seat).

I don't think it looks stupid, but I drive a baby blue/orange Mini.

The seat swap is not stock/street-legal unless you do both and they are so similar to the FoST Recaros as to be hard to distinguish, though I doubt anyone will notice or care locally. Since a harness is legal in Street, I don't see the "competitive advantage" argument holding water, but I'd be hesitant to show up to a Pro or Tour with mismatched seats.

To be truly stock legal you'd need both seats. I personally think one of each isn't a good look.

I don't know how big/small you are, but those Recaro's aren't big person friendly.

Get ready for people to point and laugh that looks ridiculous.

Yeah I figured it might be an issue but to me if its a stock option that some in the class could have, its not really fair to penalize me for not getting that from the factory... its oem equipment... I would have bought a car with them from the getgo but when I was looking, the only cars that had them were 5 grand more expensive... and its a $2k option so I didn't feel like overpaying

That's the other part of it... I have some friends who are large and they would not like the passenger seat so just having the driver's seat works from that perspective... surprisingly the FiST seats are a little wider than the FoST seats... I sat in both back to back at the auto show and also at octane academy

I had to get over the fact that 99.99999% of the population thinks its just a shitty fiesta (and the base car really does suck) so I think I'm immune to public opinion at this point... the car is so fun that I don't care about anything else...

If the seats are part of an option package, then you need the entire package conversion to make it legal. I suspect the package required to get Recaros is not only more expensive, but heavier. That would give the seat-only modification a competitive advantage.

I miss my FoST Recarros. most comfortable and supportive seats I've ever been in.

I wonder if a FoST pair would even fit in the Miata.......
