Thread: GoPro suction mount?

    Default GoPro suction mount?

My wonderful wife just surprised me with a gopro for our anniversary. It came with a handful of double faced tape mounts and a big suction cup mount. It's pretty robust, but i'm not sure I would trust it with something this expensive.

ANyone have experience autocrossing with the stock suction mounts?
It's the Motorsports Hero so I assume it's designed for this, just a little cautious.

I was planning on mounting it on the paint panel just in front of the trunk, to have a better field of view. I guess I could stick it on the windshield for best sticky.

Autocross, rallycross, rally school, snowboarding.. no issues. Paint and glass both for me, including the underside of my hard top on occasion. As long as it's flat enough and a good suction surface, you should be good.

I've used it to 'clothesline' many cones as well.

EDIT: Probably not as much of a problem for autocross, but I know for me it was really important to clean the mounting point on the car and the suction cup pretty well or you'll get circles in the paint. Mostly because of the mud/dirt/dust from rallycross, though.

If you're really worried about it you can run a lanyard around a wiper arm, but then your hypothetical damage resulting from suction cup failure are paint cost instead of camera cost.
