My hookup is currently in Afghanistan, and the A-holes here in Coppell won't pass my tires. Apparently even though the law states 3/32s, if you are actually at 3/32s they will still fail you, you have to be above 3/32s...go figure. I'm not buying tires while there's still meat on these and i'd rather not have to shop around for someone to pass them...
Anyone do inspections here, or know of a shop on the west side that's not so picky?

Thought about that, it's alot of work. Maybe a last resort.

The law says that it has to be down to 2 of the wear bars (2/32) for it to fail. Go back and tell them you will call the thier local DOT officer incharge of thier station if they dont pass you. They can get in alot of trouble if they are making thier own rules to sell people tires.

They're right at the wear bars. It may have been 2/32 instead of 3/32. It wasn't < 2/32 though, it was right at it. I asked him how it could fail if it wasn't below the limit, but at the limit. I argued for a minute then left.
I don't think he was selling tires as much as being a Barney Fife about the law. They are close enough to be debatable, nowhere near illegally or dangerously low tread.

Is this for your Miata? You are welcome to borrow my road wheels/tires for a few days to get it done. PM me if you want to come pick them up in North Arlington.
Its a haul, but there is an inspection place on I35E southbound, just north of Loop 12 on the access road. This is the south end of loop 12, by Village Fair. He is $29, legit, fast, and I don't think he has ever looked at my tires from less than 5 feet away. I've used him for several years on all our cars.

I took a chance and stopped at a seedy looking shop in south Euless. The guy didn't give a shit about the tires. Sammy's Auto Service, if anyone's interested.
Thanks for the offers and referrals everyone. I haven't driven the car in so long I forgot about my hi-beams-shutting-off-the-headlights issue I never fixed. He didn't care about that either... Lesson learned, always take your car to a ghetto shop.

I went to the Valvoline off 3040, in-between Walmart and Vista Ridge mall. On the weekends it's just a bunch of kids that work there, talk cars with them and hangout while they do the inspection. They passed my wife's car with tires that were on the edge like yours, I never even brought it up.
Sammy's may look ghetto, but they're a good shop and Sammy is an honest guy with a good sense of humor.
