Thread: Home inspection and structural engineer

Default Home inspection and structural engineer

I'm about to purchase a home inspection, and I'm looking for recommendations/personal experience for a VERY THOROUGH inspector. I'm talking Holmes-inspection type attention to detail here, and I don't mind paying a premium for it.

I'd also like to have a structural engineer inspect and measure the foundation, so same deal there.

    Thanks!

I can't point you to a good one, but I did hear something recently that I thought I would pass along... Be very leery of your agent's guy. They wan't the deal to close so they get paid, so it is in their best interest to point you to an inspector that is not going to be very thorough. If they set you up with Holmes, he is going to scare you away from the house with a laundry list, then the agent has to start all over showing you more homes.

Yep, no intention of using one of the agent's people, even though she has been excellent. Its just too easy for them to use a "yes man," even if they don't do it intentionally. She was also our listing agent, so I'm obviously pleased with her effort and knowledge.

I'm looking for info on the guy I used... It's been a week or two, but he was excellent and helped us avoid a very non-obvious money pit.
Maybe 4 wheels aren't so bad after all... wickett.org

I made fhis mistake, but luckily there were not any major issues. Real Estate agents are salespsople. I remember my agent closing the deal in the kitchen and she had positioned herself to where she was standing on a stain on the floor so we could not see it.

We just used one and they were great. Even found buttons on the microwave that didn't work.

I'll get you the info for the guy that did my house (I have to find it first). He spent several hours checking over everything - inside, outside, on top, underneath - and wrote up a very detailed report. Found several things nobody else noticed that the seller had to fix before closing.
