    Just heard about this place.

You can rent a lift and tools and do the work yourself. I'll admit I've thought about something like this in the past. Some of their rates seem high, especially some tools, but I guess if there's the demand... Looks like they have a wheel/tire mount/balancer for $20/hr. Unfortunately I don't see any mention of an alignment machine. If you know what you're doing, for certain jobs, this could be pretty great. If you don't know what you're doing you can hire someone there...which I'm sure will be expensive. Overall an interesting prospect I'll have to keep in mind for future projects.

Interesting idea. I wonder what the insurance waiver looks like.

They have these in the UK. It's pricey, but if you live in appartment... might be a tempting deal. I think most do-it-yourself types will cringe at the cost though.

I agree. But I still think for certain jobs it would be worth the cost for some. I might think about doing this when I replace exhaust. Should be a relatively quick job (even quicker with a lift) and without too much chance for the unexpected.

Good luck with that. Corroded bolts, cutting off sections, blood, sweat, tears, and so on.

My clean '99 stripped a bolt on the header collector and required a sawzal to get the connecting pipe off. I also had a bear of a time getting rear O2 sensor out.

or a few guys could have an install day, everyone chips in a little for the full day one and get everyones car done easily.

At first glance, I'm impressed. No nonsense about requiring that you use their tools. I wonder how hard its going to be to get a slot. If it becomes slammed with moonlighters to the point that you can't get a slot on short notice, then the purpose is kinda defeated.

I really like the idea of renting a bay or two on a Sunday for miata tech days.

What if you got stuck, or needs to run out to get parts, or have the car apart and can't put it back together to drive home? How about your your job needs more time than you rented? Will they kick you out since time in the bay is money for them. The next guy in line would not like to wait ether. I would rather do everything I can do with jack stands in my garage/driveway. Anything else, I would rather pay someone to take care of my problems. Unless you are a pro, this thing is "a penny wise, a pound foolish".

These are good points. I would definitely fear getting 'stuck' and I hadn't considered what happens if you run over on your reservation (or under for that matter).

The idea of an install/tech day is really compelling.

I was curious about this as well and was worried because on the bottom of the page it says it's only open monday-saturday. But then I found this in the FAQ:
"Definitely. We are closed for regular business on Sundays so that we can offer Jack Junkies Jamborees. During that time, auto and motorcycle clubs can rent the facility and hold swap meets, have pow wows, make repairs or just hang out and tinker with their vehicles. Contact [email protected] for more information."

Just buy a lift for your garage and never look back.

I can rent a hell of a lot of time for the price of a lift, much as I'd love to have one,

@ $177 per day you could have bought a lift after 14 days of renting. Plus it's a good way to fit three cars in a two car garage.

If it wasn't for my short ceilings in the garage I'd already have one!

I am toying with the idea of "storing" a lift at the world headquarters.

I got mine here derek weaver much closer to home. You could always rent it out to offset the cost.
