Aaaaaaaaannnd... never mind. Order placed.
I'm about to buy a fresh set of street daily's, and have it narrowed down to two choices: Hankook V12's (I've owned them before, price is awesome) and the Continental DW (reputation for being the perfect wet autox tire means they can do double duty). I don't expect to do many wet autox's, but it'd be great to have tires on the car that are perfect if that comes up. I've autox'd the V12's once, but it was pouring at the bus lot, so not sure that tells me anything. Generally, they are a terrific street tire and handle wet freeways very well, no problems in cold weather. They are $150/set cheaper right now.
If you have driven both, can you offer any insight or reason to choose one over the other?

Haven't driven on the V12s but I have the Continentals on my Vette. They are a great all around tire, amazing wet performance and really good in the dry (ran one event on them at MW). The sidewall and the tread compound are both really soft.
Which ones did you go with Mike? I'm about due for some DD's myself.
Too late for you, but...I have the V12s on my BMW and I give them a score of "not bad for the money." They get pretty squishy when pushed even a little bit...

Don't look...there's nothing down here for you!
I really wanted the DW's, since they are a true daily tire that will also kick-ass in the wet should the need arise at an autox (better than R1R, I'm told), but buying the new house has put all expenditures on the "budget-friendly" directive, so I opted for the V12's, which have an $80 rebate right now, and are only $90/tire in 16's for my FD wheels. $150 cheaper for the set, which isn't huge, but still meaningful. If I end up losing a National event next year because I didn't have good rains, I'll kick myself, but "them's the breaks."
I did have great results from the last set of V12's I ran on the NC in a 255/40/17. They didn't mind the winter temps, and they are very confident and predictable in the rain, even when it puddles-up. I ended-up with camber wear on the front two after 25-30K miles, but the rears were still good enough to pass-on to Goofygrin for his P-car.
With no tax and $48 shipping, the bill from TR was $408 before the $80 rebate, so about $80/tire shipped all-told in a 225/50-16. I'm taking them to Jack Junkies tonight to mount and balance them myself on their brand-new machines - $20. If anyone needs to do balancing or flipping, you are welcome to meet me, since the cost is flat-rate per hour.

Hmm... I need to flip my front tires. What time are you going up there?

I am flexible. Maybe just after traffic, 6-ish? What would work for you, POS? They close at 8.

How are you liking the V12's Mike? With $80 back from TireRack, I can get a set of 16"s for around $320 shipped.
They are great, and comfy with 50 series sidewalls. I had them.in 17's previously, and was pleased. No complaints, and the price was right, especially doing my own.mount balance.
