At least at my company, they are hiring alot of contractors for all sorts of roles from IT to finance or ... So my advice is do not turn up your nose on a contract job if it nets him experience and a foot in the door.

Fidelity Investments seems to good about hiring folks right out of college. They have a job search function via their website.

Good input, keep it coming. He is going to an on-campus job fair tomorrow, so I hope he finds something he likes.

My college buddy retired from there recently as a Sr. Marketing VP. He made really good money (high 6 figures) for 15 years, but traveled 4 days a week. Fidelity is definitely an option. My other college buddy managed a brokerage
Firm in FL and made about 7 figures after about 25 years. Cant say they were financial wizards, but they are great salesmen.

    OK, here are some basics

He should be networking, both physically and on the net.
-Physically, he should be reaching out to A&M placement office, alumni groups, professional societies, etc. Church groups, volunteer organizations, and social groups are other good network opportunities.
-On the net, he should be on facebook and linkedin. He needs to be creating a friends network on both, and using the network to give him insight, leads, etc. It also goes without saying his online presence needs to be professional. Companies these days do use google, so drunk party pics, off-color or political rants, and the like must be scrubbed.

He needs to be ready to apply and interview at the drop of a hat
-Clear, concise, and absolutely error-free 1 page resume. Most are electronically submitted, but bring copies to on-site interviews on high quality paper.
-Interview clothes ready. Need to think about 2 levels, a really sharp business casual outfit, and a highly professional dark suit with tie and nice shoes. That is because there are 2 norms depending on the company/industry. When in doubt, wear the suit! Also need to be well groomed, of course. Shaved face or groomed beard, nice haircut, and very little or no cologne.
-Be prepared for the interview. Some colleges have prep for this. There are also a ton of books. Many companies use STAR type interviews, so prep for that.

My nephew got on at Fidelity recently as an IT grad from UNT (he spent 2 years at A&M). He got on initially on a probationary period, i recall 60 days. During that time they did offer for him to stay on, he goes to Raleigh next month for a four week training period, then he has petitioned for the location he would like to be based at. He really enjoys it.

Fidelity has a LEAP program for new college grads. There's a guy (kid) in our group who came in that way. Worth checking out.
