Thread: Where are you buying your ammo these days?

Default Where are you buying your ammo these days?

I remember from a few other threads that we have some gun nuts in here. I wanted to see if anyone is having luck finding ammo locally with all the shenanigans going on and the national shortage. I know you can still find some random stuff like 10MM, 357SIG but 9mm, .40, 223 and 556 are pretty hard to find right now. I've been checking Academy and Walmart regularly and they don't have anything.

Only own .22's and you can't find .22LR either. B&S guns in garland had stock, but I wasn't gonna pay their asking price $100 for a 500round bulk pack...no thanks.

A guy I work with is also a gun dealer. He can't get anything right now. Guns or ammunition. The people that have it to sale can pretty much name their own price until manufacturing catches up.

Yep pricing is crazy when you can find it. 20 cents a round for 22 isn't that unreasonable. It's about $140 for a 500 pack round of 9mm.

For 22lr a 500 round bulk pack at walmart is usually around $30-35. Unfortunately if you aren't there when they stock the shelves your outta luck trying to find it right now.

go to academy at opening. they are getting ammo but it goes fast. eash locarion gets only two shopments per week so call ahead.

they keep the popular calibers at customer service and have a one box / person / caliber policy. i managed to scorea 500 rd case of 9mm and 150 rd case of 5.56 for normal pre crazy prices, $99 & $89 respectively. the bulk cases fall under the one box policy. i got the last ones and this was at 8:30, so like i said, early.

havent looked anywhere else since every other company price gouges.

Gunmaster in Plano has all calibers, but they are from a consignment. Paid $300 for what normally woulda been $120. Oh well, I'm all stocked up on .223, 9mm, and .45 but I feel like I've hd a colonoscopy!

I shoot a lot of 45 and reload (other cals also). Surprisingly, powder/primer/bullets are still readily available and at normal prices. Bought a 1# can of powder at the last show for $22 and 1k primers for $30 - roughly the same price as 10 years ago.

    Lack or 22lr is a bummer - I have a (legal Form 4) 22lr silencer so shoot a lot of 22lr, too.

I'm so glad I stocked up last year... even if the panic ended today it would be a good 6 months until we see a semblance of normalcy.

5.7X28 was already tough to find, probably won't see it in large quantities for a long time.

I've been going at lunch and nothing. I guess they get shipments and stock overnight or first thing in the AM. I'll go check before work. Need to get some 9MM and 5.56. Let me know if you want to sell off say 100 rounds of the 9mm.

Yea they're out by 9am. People are camping out in the parking lot at 1am to buy ARs if they get shipped one or two. They wipe out the ammo on their way out. Sometimes I wonder where rednecks get their money from...

What I would do is call them when they open to find out what they got shipped that day. Wait till they get some cases in unless you want to stock up with 20rds /day. I've wasted a few trips on their non shipment days.

What this whole madness has taught me is it was irresponsible for me to not buy at least $10 worth of ammo each payday when the getting was good.

I'll start chasing academy ammo next week and consider it my treat for not smoking.

^ Lucky. I've gone in there a couple times telling myself I might consider buying if they had one. Thankfully I've never seen one recently, I already have a nice AR and don't need another. want is another story.

Elk Castle had a whole display case of ARs a couple weeks ago. The guy said the ordered them before the panic, but the manufacturer called before they shipped due to the increase in price.

$2406.00 each for Windriver. I'll stick with what I have, but I am sharpening another stick this weekend.

I got to Academy this morning at 7:45, and I was 19th in line. Doors opened promptly at 8 am. By the time I got to the front of the line about 50% or so had been snapped up. .223 sold out quickly. I was hoping for some 9mm target ammo, but all they received in this shipment were JHPs. Didn't want to spend $22 per box on that to throw at paper. Will try again next week.

Snagged a 100 round pack of 9mm yesterday for 28 and a 250 bulk pack today for 70. Both at Academy both at about 8:02 AM right when they opened. It sold out within minutes of opening.

    They also had a 250 pack of .45 yesterday for 109 at several Academy's and they had a 500 brick of 22LR for 17 today, too bad I don't have a .22.

Moral of the story, go right when they open at 8 AM and you can get ammo, wait till 830 or 9 and all the good stuff is gone.

Consignment AR's are coming down to 1500 or less now at several stores.

^ Good deal! I'm going to hit em up some time this week again. I have a decent stash now, but not enough to justify burning some at a range...and why do I have these expensive toys if not to go have fun with them.
