Thread: P1399 on a 1999 Honda S2000

  1. #1

    Default P1399 on a 2000 Honda S2000

Neighbor buddy was driving to work car was running great then started to act up and kicked a code P1399.

P1399- Manufactures control Ignition system OR Misfire

Did some googling and the S2K community is all over the place on a cause for this CEL from "Bad Gas" to "Time to Replace the Motor".... Not a lot of help IMHO.

Any of you S2K kids have any thoughts or suggestions.

    TIA

How many miles on the car?

I would start by pulling the plugs, inspecting, then replacing them. Then I think there is a resistance check you can do on the coils. I have an S2K shop manual so I can look it up if needed. It would also be easy to remove the oil cap while the car is running and see how much blowby there is.

Think I had the same code and traced it to a bad coilpack.

115,000 changed the plugs with the exact NGK's Honda had in it and we still have a missfire... Do you recall how to test the coils??

I have it in my garage nestled up to my miata doing a soul transfer right now!

What year is the car? Is there a misfire code that keeps popping up? Or a perceptible misfire you can feel when driving/idling/accelerating?

Looks like you can not do an ohm test on Honda coils.

    Thanks Davidss!

The S2K finally decided to share a bit more with us and spit up a P0301. Cleared codes then move the coil pack to the number 2 cylinder fired it up and eventually got a P0302 so I think we have located the bad coil.

Did you check the points in the Honda distributor? Have you looked into an exorcism for the Miata?

Now, if you need more soul...

You may have reduced the soul, but you've tripled the horsepower!

You know what is scary there was one other time I had a soul-less car in my garage.....

I mean who in their right mind rips the barn doors off such a timeless classic...... You just couldn't help but feel sorry for that car.....
