i saw your car today, by the fox and hound(?) off bryant irving. which wheels you have? looks nice.
This is sort of for POS since we talked about it yesterday, but I wanted everyones ideas. I did a compression check on the engine today. 160-163 across the board dry, 190 in 1,3,and 4 210 in 2 wet. I think I put a bit more oil in number two so that might throw results huh? My car burns oil especially at autoXes when I close the throttle at high rpm. THe smoking has been brought to my attention even by others. Would these results seem to point towards rings or head? I will do a leakdown, but I am taking the car to the body shop tomorrow, so it will be a week or so for that.
BTW: I read in the tester instructions, slow build up to pressure can indicate bad rings. What is slow build up? The way mine was, on the first stroke, 120-130 second 150 and third 160. Any thoughts on that? Thanks guys

What is Mazda’s spec for compression for your new fangled big block motor?
It sounds as if your problem is in your head or in this case the head. Slow build up would be like 60-80-ect. When the throttle is closed the engine is in high vacume so it could be drawing oil past the valve seals or guides. I know you have JDM motor in there and depending on how long it sat the valve seals could have dried out. I would look at removing the head and getting freshend up as the compression number look good.

I thought we all had JDM motors in our cars...Originally Posted by Flyin96M
I do have a replacement, I just got it from a junk yard though, so it isnt anything special. you are right about it sitting around though. Thanks for the info.
BTW 3bean, everyone but you has a JDM motor!!!
Dude I cannot take your AVATAR - It's causing me to have seizures!
Oil consumption on throttle release is heads not rings.

Marc, I agree w/ Justin, it's your valves.

I also agree. Head problems are much more common than bottom-end problems and all your symptoms point to the head.
Unless you're me, and buy a motor with both rings and valve problemsOriginally Posted by EvilSpeeder
