Default Swap/Borrow FM cam gear ninja tool for FM main rear seal installer

I have to do a waterpump and swap out my cam seals, and I was hopping I could borrow a FM ninja camshaft "holder" or see if anbody is interested in swapping it for my FM rear main seal installer, thanks.

Yes, this method worked kinda well when I did the loctite big nose keyway fix. Once it started raining, I used an outdoor swimmimg pool tarp, 5 or 6 bricks as anchor pins,.....over the both cresent wrenches and the locking pliers. It did really look like a mini tepee, .......mini sitting bull.

That FM bottle opener won't work if your changing the cam seals.

Not to contradict you Steven, but you actually can take both cam gear+FM tool out as one piece if you loop 2 zipties between each cam gear and the FM tool and make them as tight as possible. That's what ended up working for me.

Quick question what holds the Cams in position when you pull the cam gears??

Quick question why do you guys bother holding the cams in place? I've seen this in done on multiple motors... I used it the first time I did motor work... Find it takes more time to hook up the tool than it takes me to retime a motor.... So I've never understood it.

...and it has more soul than a glorified bottle opener.
    ...and across the line.

I do it because it is just easier to have the cams locked in place while I changed the belt and cam seals. It gives me piece of mind that I didn't screw anything else up in the process.

    But your point is valid!

I had this exact same thought before I spent 2 days tearing into my engine twice chasing timing problems, haha.

I've had my miata motor out of time at least 40 times... Over the last few years. I've never had an issue putting it back. My old car I was pulling the head almost every other week to inspect for 3 years.... Never had issue there either. Then again I'm fairly OCD...

You didn't spin the motor by hand to check the timing? You have to spin it to get to tension point anyways... Pretty simple mistake. Marks are very clear.

BTW on SR20 motors we have had people (2 that I remember) do this trick... have it slip while they aren't watching then chase the issue for weeks because they "know" that couldn't be the issue.

Many of us tend to not tear our stuff up as regularly as you do.....
