Thread: Towing a Miata?

    Default Towing a Miata?

    Hey guys & gals,

Who here has experience towing a Miata?

Can it be done with a 2 wheel tow dolly or do I need to get a flatbed trailer? Tow dollies can be rented but I don't know where to get a flatbed.

I'll be going to Tennesee this weekend to pick up my racer. Won it on eBay last night.

We'll see how hard it is to build a spec racer...

All I need to do is to sell my travel trailer (have interest in it from a co-worker in Houston) and my 8' fully enclosed trailer and I'll have a pretty good amount of cash to buy the autopower cage kit and the suspension kit.

I'll also be selling parts off of the car that aren't needed for spec racing... seats, aftermarket rims (some kind of "Millen Panasport"), etc...

    WOOHOO!

If the seats are black cloth and in good condition, I'd be interested in them!

They are black cloth, but I'm not sure of their condition yet other than a quick auction pic that was up...

It also has an Autopower roll bar that I'll be yanking out to sell. Don't need it in a Spec racer... I'll have to weld a cage in!

I'd recommend a car trailer and U-Haul rents them. That's how I got my Miata back here from California. Any more pics of the car? Those Millen wheels are neat but look to be pretty shoddy. Might be worth getting them fixed up and sold on Flea-Bay. Wonder what they weigh.

Oh, and don't tell them you're towing a Miata. They say it too low and won't rent to you.

I'd second renting a tandem axle car hauler from UHaul.

A Spec Miata, huh? Another word of advice - skip the autopower bolt in cage and go straight to a custom built cage with NASCAR bars. It may cost a bit more, but it will be built around you for your car with the highest possible level of safety, instead of just meeting the minimum requirements.

It might be hard to mount a hardtop (needed for spec) on Red.

I guess you could run some bungee cords from the front hardtop latches to the barn doors!

The first step is admitting you have the problem. He's still working on the other 11.
