Our bedroom (where my wife or I would be) is at the back of the house, accessed by a 25-30' hallway. If she is defending herself, the term fish in a barrel comes to mind.

While the discussion on chain saws is interesting... they aren't too reliable here when talking about home invasion (zombie or otherwise)...

Those of you with chain saws go out and see if your saw will start on the first or second pull... though, if the sound of your cursing at the thing doesn't scare off the intruder, you could always throw it at them..

on the ammo subject, i was cabelas yesterday and they have 12g 00 rubber rounds so no wories about going threw walls . i think it was right at 4.99 for 5. (not 100% sure on that though)

Personally, my Saiga12 with a 20rd drum of mil-spec 00 next to my bed helps me sleep at night.. lol

Are the 00 rubber rounds considered lethal or non lethal? I wonder if that is more or a riot control type ammo.

Less than lethal, the rubber slugs, bean bags/hydrobags, etc will still kill someone if you hit them in the wrong area. Use something real in a defense situation, those are for "behavioral modification" in riots and stuff like that.

A long ago employee of mine asked me clean up the mess after his eight year old was accidentally shot by his buddy. Believe me,bird shot will do the trick. The kid lived and I just had to clean up leg meat.

8 year old and 250 pound grown man charging at you are two different things.

^Also12inches and 12 feet are a huge difference when birdshot is concerned.

Unless of course the birdshot is suspended in wax.... Those things are NASTY.

^This was on my Mossberg 88. Didn't rack it with enough gusto. Wasn't in any way the gun's(or design's) fault.
