Thread: Match Tour at Mineral Wells

We all know attendance has been off. We all know attendance has really been off at Mineral Wells. We have a second national event at Mineral Wells because the travelers and others do not like the bus lot. The Mineral Wells event is canceled. Local clubs keep using the bus lot with good attendance. The smaller clubs with attendance caps are selling out at the bus lot but not at Mineral Wells. This is not a personal attack on Mineral Wells because I like Mineral Wells.

I am real hesitant to post this, but here’s my perception of the Match Tour format. Don’t flame me, just giving my opinion of the format.

It really seemed to me that the Match Tours are aimed at the top 10%, the guys that have a realistic chance of winning on PAX. For a mid-pack driver like me it just didn’t seem worth the time/money.

Really wanted to support the region, but just could not get excited about the format. Spending the night or getting up at 4a.m. and driving 2 hours Sunday morning just to get knocked out in the first round, if I even made the elimination rounds did not seem worth the effort. The time/money to fun factor just did not work out for me. Add in the good chance of it being very hot in the middle of June and I’m out.

I think those are good points. I'm still trying to figure out what was wrong with a traditional Tour. The only thing I could think of that might attract more people is to compress it to a one-day event.

Another point of interest is that the super challenge brackets are a bit murky. After reading about the Peru Match tour, it appears that the top 32 play in their own bracket, the LCQ plays in their own bracket, and the Ladies/Random draw plays in their own bracket. This way, dang near anyone can win their bracket and take home some good $$$.

I don't think this was fleshed out as much as it could have. Knowing this, I think more people might have joined. Hindsight...
