Bump!
Sign up guys! You were worried it was all going to be lead and follow. There is open track time. Paul has done a lot to get this track time to happen. Let's not disappoint him. Even $75 for this is a great deal. Granted, you're better off signing up before October 1st for $55 and getting a shirt to boot.

I just had an email exchange with Desi Rodriguez about the "open track time"
according to him, it is:
"The open track time is for our Sponsor vehicles. We have a couple of National Level AutoX cars and Track Cars from Track dog coming out, they will be doing demonstration runs while the rest of us Take lunch and Fuel Up. I'm going to update the schedule to reflect then and have Paul Repost."
so I am cancelling out and asking for a refund since it is only lead/follow after all according to him

I read his email to say the National level autocrossers were part of the Track Dog crew, and responded saying I don't know of anyone like that at TDR and I've been around a while and run a lot of events and never saw "national level autocrossers" running out of Gary's
he took offense and said the AND in his sentence meant two separate groups, one autocross and one TDR
so I assume there will be some of the Spokes guys from STR and maybe DP
they are tailoring their event to a certain group of drivers, but it just isn't the group that runs HPDE events or autocrosses
more power to them, hope they have a successful and fun event for those people

This is all news to me. Sounds like a big cluster f#%*! I'll try to contact Paul again for clarification. It's frustrating to be told one thing or led to believe one thing only to have other's told something else.
I will clear this up asap.
Sounds like it's not gonna be worth the trip for some lead 'n' follow laps at lunch.

Nothing has changed not sure where Desi is coming from. I talked directly to our track sponsor about you guys and he was fine with you all coming and running open track time.
I will talk with Desi and will straigten it out and let him know that open track time and Friday evening is for all qualified drivers.
sorry for the wrong information that he provided.
PBellew,
Thanks for trying to clear this up. As you can well see, there are quite a few "track heads" on this board. As such, knowing what will/won't be available in terms of actual track time will a major determining factor in deciding to drive down to Austin or not. Are you now saying that as part of the $55 fee, there will be unlimited track time at HH2 for qualified cars and drivers? And can you provide guidance on what constitutes eligibility for cars and drivers?
Thanks.

A follow up to Speed's question
Thanks for the clarification. I would appreciate a confirming update after you are sure everyone on your team (e.g., Desi) is on the same page with the posted info.
So a person whose car passes the requirements in post #28 on page two earlier in this thread:
First shows up at Registration at the event Hotel between 7:30 am and 9am on Friday to get credentials that will allow running on Harris Hill. (I didn’t see any mention of Registration at the track for those wishing to get orientation on Friday so they can run on Saturday)
Second, shows up at the track at 2:00 Friday afternoon for orientation (and I guess eyeballing of the car to be sure it is safe).
Third, gets an hour of open track on Saturday morning 9:00 to 10, and another hour at 3:00 to 4. These sessions will have drivers who are entrants in the Roundup, and Roundup staff, and Harris Hill members as well.
Is that correct ?

I will let Paul chime in but let me add a few things.
Friday was initially vendor only track time but I asked to open it up to qualified DFW Miata members. I'd like to add contributing forum members. Pay up suckers! Saturday always was for everyone else.
Qualified drivers are people with track or autocross experience. Lead and follow sessions will also allow experienced drivers new to Harris Hill to get familiar with the track. They will also be doing lead and follows for folks new to track courses. They will be short run groups with experienced leaders familiar with the track. They will not be conga lines. I think they will be high paced and fun for experienced drivers as well as less experienced drivers. After the lead and follows, the track will be opened up for the qualified drivers. Roll bars are optional but recommended. Helmets required. Cars should be track ready. No leaking fluids, good tires, brakes, etc...
Harris Hill will advise you of the rules which we expect everyone to follow. I'm guessing it will be standard HPDE rules. Passing in the straights only. Black flags for four wheel off, spins or improper passing. If we behave and act safely I imagine we will have lots of fun and be asked back for next year. If not, we will be asked to leave and go home early.
For this price, it is a privilege to get the track time. As long as everyone appreciates that and doesn't act like an asshat we will all have a great time. If you were paying regular HPDE rates you might be entitled to some gripes. At $55 which includes a shirt and a meal shut up, be nice and enjoy whatever time we get.
I've been talking with Paul about trying to get as much real track time for everyone as we can. That's the goal. Come out and support this because if it goes as well as we hope, we will be back next year as well.
There will not be unlimited open track time and this event is not a HPDE as stated a few times. It is meant for all people attending the Roundup.
There will be lead follow for people who have no track experience or very little and would like to try it.
1. What driver requirements are there? Experience required? Experienced Autocross and Track people, we will have track staff watching
2. What safety requirements are there? Helmet, Roll bar? Helmet is required, Roll Bar is not
3. How much actual track time? Listed below
4. Will there be run groups or an open track? Open track, I know you hate lead follows but we have a young man who can out drive most.
5. Will there be instructors? Yes, must go through orientation, all track rules will be followed,
The open track time is not a entitlement, We are having it as a courtesy to those with more experience.
Friday afternoon I have arranged an open track time for those that meet the above qualifications.
The Friday afternoon open track time that starts at 2pm is not a roundup event and please do not feel that you are entitled to this time. I have arranged it through our sponsor. You must show respect to your fellow drivers at all times and get along with each other. If you driving are in dangerous and reckless behavior you will be asked to leave by the track staff.
The Roundup is a state wide meet for all Miata owners. That is why we have Hill Country runs planned and various other events that appeals to different groups of Miata owners.
The Texas Miata Roundup is not just a track day event as stated before.
2nd time posted.
