Thread: Wireless router

Those are rated highly. Your thread got me motivated to update and improve my TWC setup. Once I took a good look at the rented gateway they provided me, I realized it was only DOCSIS 2.0 modem with a pretty poor-quality single band wifi router. I did some CL searching and picked up a Motorola SB6141 w/ the latest firmware and a Belkin N750 DB N+ router for $80 total. I would like a slightly more robust router, but I'll wait until I actually own something that can use the new AC wifi standard. Prices should drop in a year or so too. Now I just need to get my network expert neighbor to drop by and optimize the wifi settings.

Good choice on the AP, but I would still upload DD-WRT's firmware.

    Since we're on the topic...

Anyone here have FIOS and upgraded to their "top-grade 802.11n Advanced WiFi Router"? My current wifi situation in the house is just OK; the reception in the TV room is spotty since my modem is on the far end of the house. Verizon claims greater wifi reach and 3x speed compared to my current set-up. Cost--$99.

    Thoughts/user experience?

Long story, but I finally got cable internet installed yesterday. Tried to connect the ASUS I bought and no joy. Messed around with it all afternoon and finally gave up. Couldn't even get to the interface with a hardwired laptop. Sending it back to the seller and getting a refund.

Went to my local Target and bought a Netgear N300 ($40)....plugged it in, set it up and had everything working in minutes.

I got the upgraded router for free, just complained my WiFi was dropping out while wired connection was still working.
Over wifi and wired its faster due to the gigabit ports and wireless N. I mean as long as your machines support that level of bandwidth. I wired up my house with cat6 because I wasn't happy with their older fios router speeds.
