Thread: 1997 Montego Part Out

Now that I've been poking around under the hood a good bit more, the damage is very minor. This would be an outstanding candidate for a track car. There is a good 6" in front of the shock tower that isn't affected at all; it is purely cosmetic damage. The passenger fender had the front mounting tabs bent just a little but can be bent back and it'll be perfect. So it just needs to have the very left corner sheet metal, and the forward cross-member (in front of the radiator) and you'll be able to rebuild the car if you want. I happen to have all the parts except the upper tombstone mount

Tombstone, upper tombstone support bracket, and radio support bracket are sold.

So the bbs wheels not for sale?

The BBS wheels are not for sale. They are on the replacement car. Chances are that you'd need to pay more to get them than you'd be willing to for those wheels. I can ask my son if he is willing to part with them if you really want though.

Nice little part-out. Lots of stuff in excellent condition, pulled carefully. Well worth the drive. Thanks!

Thanks! Was good to catch up again and meet your son.

As for the rest considering coming out, please do. I'm just trying to recoup the salvage purchase of the car and help folks who need parts on the cheap. We all need a break now and again.

Those are BMW wheels….they are real heavy, and not worth near what OEM BBS's are.

    They're directly off an E30.

Part-out continues. I also have two sets of wheels; one dasies in decent shape and a set of 7-spokes in very, very good shape (9-10). The daisies have tires with tread, but they're cracked and really old. The 7-spokes have cheap tires with 50% tread; if you just need 'em to roll, these will do.

I'm pulling the carpet today and I'll get that cleaned out. I may start on the dash later, so things behind it will soon be available.

Engine bay stripping will begin very soon.

AC is available and worked very well. put steering also worked very well. the matter brake cylinder like almost new and I would guess that pine pod the prior owners had it replaced fairly recently (but that is polite speculation based on hours clean and shiny it is).

I'm available all day if anyone is wanting to come by. In fact, I can generally be available through the new year.

Regarding the seats....are they from different years? Looking at the seat material weave-pattern (the pic in post #10) it appears they are not the same.

They looked the same to me in person, iirc. I think its just the lighting in the photo.

Sorry so late getting back to this. Yes, the passenger seat is a different weave than the driver's seat. The passenger seat is pristine; it looks brand new. I believe that it came out of a 1992 Miata and the driver's is out of a '97. However they lived in my son's car for some time before we actually noticed they were different.

For anyone interested in the engine/drivetrain. The structure did not touch the engine. At first, I thought the crossover tube to the intake was crushed, but it isn't; at all. The radiator is not quite touching it (but darned near). You can see how little damage the car actually took; especially for how little the structure in front of the shock was actually bent.

By that I mean, they are obviously different.

The driver seat had a tear in it so I swapped it for an early NA seat, had to tear the whole thing down with Rob to the frame and swap over the covers, not a fun job. It also has some foam removed so you sit lower in the seat.

^NO! The foamectomy was so awful that the foam was replaced with yet another seat and the pan was repainted after pulling out all the corrosion. The seatback was also missing foam which was replaced. While the drivers seat is still an early model, it isnt related to the seat described above.

Some of you may recall that last year I had seat rails, covers, and foams to give away; those were from the seats that Cosmos had in the car when i bought it.

What is the TCB price for the passenger seat only? I already have a nice black cloth drvers seat.
    1990 White NA - SOLD
    1994 Black NA - SOLD
2006 Red NC - GT with limited slip, HIDs, all OEM.
