Thread: Went out and bought a German car.

Default Went out and bought a German car.

No not one of those...I got one of the girly ones.

Bought it from a good friend at a smoking good deal.

2007 Cooper S with only 29k miles. Guy bought it for a weekend autocross car years ago, bought a motorcycle, never autocrossed it, and hasn't hardly driven it since he got bigtime into cycling. He needed it gone.

It's got the Cobb - Alta access port, invidia turboback exhaust, Alta intake / turbo piping / blowoff valve and H&R springs. All of the gay chrome is painted black.
He included all the factory parts with it.
It's quick, sounds great, turns great. Seriously it's almost more fun around town than the miata, in a zippy, toy car sort of way. Hopefully I can figure out all the wierd German quirks and it doesn't break something expensive.

So now I own both a Miata and a MINI, at least Volkswagen is still gayer

Those cell pics are crappy full size. That's all I've got so here are some from before I bought it.

If anyone on here has a MINI and is interested, it has a 12" sub in a custom fitted enclosure. I'll be selling it soon since I need the interior space more than I listen to rap. I'll throw pics up in the next day or so.

I know I am kind of worried, lol.

The guy had a friend at the Mini dealership so he had them go through all the catastrophic problem things like the "death rattle", etc. and had them all inspected/replaced before the warranty ran out.

+1, we had an 09 and every possible place that could leak fluid, did. Oil, coolant, trans fluid etc. Fun car but the Peugeot power plant was a heaping POS from a reliability standpoint.

And technically it's British, just owned by the Germans :)

There are days when I miss my Audi's. Audi's are amazing machines but when anything goes wrong it is expensive. Just the parts themselves are pricey. I did a timing belt / water pump job myself on a 2.7t once.... that was an experience. I don't know that a car could be much more difficult to work on either.

And then I still think about getting rid of my '13 Mustang for another S4 as a daily driver frequently. I know the next Audi I get is getting a full 100K warranty bumper to bumper with rental.....

Cool car, and def a hoot. Go ahead and buy a clutch slave now and read up on how to get to it behind the bumper. Love the wheels. Pm me about the sub.

No kidding. Its just a car, and Jigger is pretty mechanically inclined. They are more finicky than an Asian car, but the vast majority don't experience catastrophic issues. The mileage is so low that he's practically starting with a new car, and one that has been under the care of Cobb and some other shops that know what they are looking at. Whenever it breaks, it'll cost him, but its still a good little car, especially for the right price.

Pick on JJ instead, he deserves it.

My cousin is on his second MINI. He had a US first gen and now the second gen and has been reliable for him but he has "heard" stories. I dunno, there are always horror stories especially about "german" cars but like most cars if the PREVENATIVE maintenance is done on time then they are good cars. Probably one of the best handling FWD platforms.

Yea I went into this knowing full well the gremlins these cars have. I own 4 cars now 3 of them are daily driver kid haulers and I have a decent savings built up. I can afford the downtime, not that it wouldn't suck to buy German parts...

i might regret it later but I was tired of the 'safe' boring cars. I wanted a fun drive to class this year.

With these cars preventative maintenance is key. Dont flog it on a cold engine. Dont put old gas from crappy stations. Change the oil and flush coolant regularly. Skimp on any of those and your going to have a bad time.

I was a BMW tech when they just released the MINI, so I'm OK with working on them.

I told her that she'd end up loving it, but she wants her Lexus. I found another suitable daily driver, but I can't say I won't work the MINI angle again when babies start coming.
