Thread: Wtb: 1999-2001

    Default Wtb: 1999-2001

Im looking to buy a 1999-2000 Mazda Miata in a manual transmission only (DFW area). The car needs to be in good condition both mechanically and cosmetically (minimal dings/dents, no paint fading). I'd like the mileage to be at 120k and under with a clean Tx title. Mainly looking for an NB1 because it's more in my price range that Im looking to spend, but will also look at NB2's if you have one for sale. You can PM me here, or send me a text. Thanks

Best bet is just scouring CL. There are a couple of good-looking NB1's on there for reasonable prices right now. You didn't actually mention your price range, which will significantly impact the responses you get. If you aren't looking to spend at least $4500+ (and more likely $5500+), you have a pretty tough task ahead of you, based on my frequent searches of the local market. Oklahoma tends to be a little cheaper.

Whatever you do, the prices are about as low as they are going to get for the next 9-10 months. Once mid-late Feb arrives, Miata fever hits and everything goes up 10-20%.

Ozmdd is right. As someone who will be selling my miata around the May time frame, I agree.

2 I found that are already priced high:
    http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/cto/4290636261.html $8.5k with 87k miles
    http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/ctd/4296795683.html $6.5k with 150k miles

Mine looks just like the silver one, with roll bar, 6speed, and factory body kit/spoiler with 70k miles. I will probably list mine $7k obo

This is is a decent deal. Could probably talk him down from 5500 to 5k

    And a few more. <$5k

Check CL for Waco, Witcha Falls, East Texas, Far East Texas, OKC, etc ...
I found mine near Longview. Prices are lower in rural areas.
Be patient; you'll find the right car for the right money.

Yep, he's on there twice. Unfortunately, not many sellers think to look for want-ads.

Haha thanks guys. Yeah I've been on CL for a about a month now looking for a nice example. Ive seen most of the Miata that were posted above, but for some of them I just cant justify the price for their condition. Im willing to spend $5500, and I think that's a very fair price for a clean NB1 with ~120k or less.

There is one in Tyler for that price range, with some upgrades and a roll bar.

Man. And to think I sold my '99 Sport with 110k, a hard top, three sets of wheels, a tire trailer, and five years worth of spare parts for $8500... seven and a half years ago. Seems crazy what they're still worth.

Miatas are a lot like Jeeps, when it comes to long lived popularity and resale. I think my 95 wrangler is worth more now than when I sold it 2 years ago.

If the paint is original then this Miata is a very rare Laser blue on a rarer 6 speed LS, though the painted wheels are a cause for concern...

Seat covers (bad leather), steering wheel cover (??), fart can muffler, temp tags... I'm going to guess its more of a $4500 car than $6500. Agree that the color is awesome, if the paint quality is good.

That thing would be beautiful with the right wheels.

Keep an eye on the san Antonio and Houston CL ads too. Cars are cheaper in Houston for sure. And you never know where a motivated seller will appear.

I appreciate all the help and leads you guys have been giving me. Unfortunately due to my busy work schedule, Im really wanting to keep my options in the DFW and surrounding areas because I just can't find the time to travel far working 7 days a week.

I dont think I'll find a deal like that anymore. (BTW shes at 180k now and still kicking rear)

It is crazy. As the drift kids keep getting them the prices on the miatas keep going up. its the new 240.

The are not much cheaper in Houston. If anything I think the run more here as it is such a large city that is dependent on driving.
