thats sad.
Just saw a story of a really bad accident last night where a Miata lost control and slammed into a taxi carrying a family on their way home from dinner. The Miata was a black NA that appeared to have NB surfboard seats swapped in.
I hope it wasn't anyone we know...

Sad. Photos of the car are in there. Looked like it was a cleaner than usual miata. Hope it isn't anyone on here.
Happened in Houston, but looks like all 6 people involved were from DFW area. Miata took a curve too fast and drifted into oncoming traffic. From the damage that miata must have been going extremely fast.
Edit: watching the video, apparently the 2 survivors (front seat of taxi) were the only ones wearing seatbelts.

Not sure if it is just the image resolution, but it appears that the back tires have no tread. Maybe old, maybe slicks, might have nothing to do with anything; just an observation. Terrible regardless.

That happened on Nasa Rd 1 in Clear Lake. That undivided stretch of road between Space Center Blvd and TX146 has a long history of bad accidents. And it's heavily patrolled by Houston, Pasadena, Seabrook, and Taylor Lake Village police. Growing up there I personally witnessed at least one accident per year.

That's an insane amount of compression. I wonder if a roll bar would have even helped it not compress as much from side to side.

Definitely would have helped, but a hit that severe without a HANS device would probably be fatal no matter what.
