Sylvania Headlight Restoration Kit

Just used this kit on my headlights with pretty good results. Definitely worked better than whatever I used last time. It's a multistage process with three different sandpaper grits and a couple of different sprays/compounds. Took an hour or so of elbow grease but it the results were worth the effort. I'll post up pics in a bit.

Biggest thing with any headlight restoration is that you've removed what UV protection the headlight had. They will cloud over again very quickly unless you protect them.

I did the S2000's headlights several times - I was always happy with the results right after, but not for long. This last time, I bought some clear headlight protector film and covered the headlights after polishing them. 18 months later and the headlights still look like new.

The Sylvania kit comes with UV protectant.

Is it a spray on type or is it an actual film? I never had any luck with the spray on kind.

I used Lamin-x headlight covers.

It was a somewhat thick and very sticky liquid that is wiped on with lint free towel. The kit was rated the best by Consumer Reports, in part because its results lasted the longest. Time will tell. I'll keep your method in mind for the future.

No need for the kits just buy some sandpaper like 2,000 and 3,000 grit use with soapy water and some plastX polish and it will clear right up.

I've used the 3M kit several times on various vehicles and it is the only one I've used that restored the lights to new condition. Am others I've tried were less than ideal, and looked it. The 3M kit is just a very thorough sanding kit, and finishes off with a polishing compound. The Bandit lasted about 3 years and is just now starting to cloud again.

Right. The sylvania kit uses 400, 1000, and 2000 grit sandpaper. But it also adds some cleaner spray, clarifying compound, and the UV sealer. It sounds like you could just use your own sand paper as long as you put some Laminex over it when you're done...
