Thread: wired for cruise control?

  1. #1

    Default wired for cruise control?

I have a 1990. When pulling my dash tonight there was a connection/wires where cruise control is normally located but there was just a dummy plate there.

Are theu all wired for it, but just need the mechanical parts?

I think most of the early ones are wired for cruise, power windows, and so on. Mine is. I added cruise using those existing wires.

Not all the early cars have the wiring harness that supports cruise. My '92 A-package didn't.

Mine is a 93. Not sure what made one have it and not the other.

When I get back at it I'll post a couple pics because there was a few larger connections that were just open and not connected to anything. Kinda concerning.

This sounds like the plug you were talking about. Pardon the rust/dirt, part of the reason for pulling the dash. :)

First pic is a shot of the location (left hand side) and the second is up close of the plug.
Ive been reading about the wiring but have little to no experience with it, so this is a learning process for me.

My 96 R-Package was partially wired for various accessories. The cruise wiring was all there. I just had to add all the mechanical bits. The power windows and mirrors were wired until the door jam. I sourced a used door jam wiring harness (The little rubber part which the wiring runs through in the door jam) from a car equipped with power windows and mirrors. It just plugged in and so now I have an R-Pkg with PEP options.
