Thread: 99 Miata $2000

    Default 99 Miata $2000

Drive this cream puff home........runs great, no check engine light, A/C is cold. 5 speed, Torsen. Totally stock, no mods. The engine is clean internally, the valve cover gasket is leaking some but that appears to be the only leak. Hit on drivers side, keep the drive train and sell the body parts to a spec Miata racer. No previous paint and body work and no hail damage. Top and battery and shot, starts right up with a jump. Listed on Craigslist for $2250, $2000 to anyone on the board who sends me a PM. I have the auction paper work I can give you if you are going to part it out or if you have to have a clean TX title it will cost about $175 for tax, registration, transfer, etc.

If you are planning to build an Exocet... don't do it. Just buy one of the many compete ones that are coming on to the market.

You're aware Texas uses SPV now, right? That means >$200 in tax alone - so more like >$300 with all the other junk fees. Doesn't matter what damage it has or even if it is missing the engine/trans.

Try plugging in the VIN here: http://www.txdmv.gov/spv-calculator

Yeh, it sucks. Big. Burned me on the last "beater" I bought. And good luck getting it lowered with an appraisal - it'll cost more $/time than you'll save.

Just an FYI you can still do it for cheap. I told them I paid 1100 for my car and it was only 130.

Not any more. That's the point of SPV: for private-party sales, unless you're willing to pay for a "Certified Appraisal", what you paid or what the car is really worth makes zero difference for tax assessment. The car here looks like a $3.3k car in "good" condition but has $3k in body damage. It'll still be taxed on a SPV of ~3k.

And the SPV law STILL sucks. It makes fixing/flipping cars like this non-profitable.

You got real lucky or the car was eligible for one of the exemptions like Salvage Title.

In Tarrant County unless it falls under one of the exceptions you are going to pay SPV. BTDT

Values are pretty low for miatas on spv. My last 93 cost me <$100 in taxes and fees, title only.

SPV can be your friend. I just bought my mom an 05 Grand Marquis with 14k miles. I can only wish I paid as little as its SPV of $5175.

If you buy a vehicle at an abandoned vehicle auction SPV does not apply..............
