Thread: Got room for a new member with wrong wheel drive?

Default Got room for a new member with wrong wheel drive?

Hey everyone, long time lurker here... I have browsed the classified section and done some research here but ultimately I was not able to have a roadster as my only vehicle so after I totaled my car I wound up buying a Fiesta ST (FiST)...

Included in my purchase was a free day of racing school at Ford's ST Octane Academy at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah (Focus ST owners are also eligible). Anyway, I just went in October and I ever since I got back I have been dying to get into autocross bad... I figured that this would be a good place to learn more about that since there are no local forums for my car or the FoST...

I really love my car and it puts a smile on my face at least once on every trip but I definitely wish it wasn't FWD... I can see myself picking up a used NA or NB as a second car at some point in the future, or an ND or the Fiat 124 Spyder (Abarth) when it comes time to buy a new car again...

Anyway, my name is Edward and I hope that I can add some value here while learning at the same time...

    Cheers!

Welcome aboard. This autocross season is over for the most part, but bring out the fiesta next year.

Keep an eye on the forum starting after the first of the year. A couple of the clubs offer autocross schools before the AX season gets started. They're a great value and you'll get a ton of quality instruction and seat time.

    Welcome!
Please, note the 'Autocross Calendar' button on the top menu. It will have the events from all the local clubs as well as links to those clubs.

Welcome. There are a couple of FoST owners on this forum, I'm not sure of any other FiST owners.
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

Howdy! I miss my FoST. The miata is a fun car, but the FoST was just a good car all around.

    Thanks guys! I'm learning already!

    Autocross schools sound amazing!

It doesn't surprise me that there are no other FiST owners. I have only seen 4 FiST's in person in the area and it could have been seeing the same 2 cars twice.

sxk122, did you do the Octane Academy?

Yes, please come autox your fist. I've been looking for more people to run against in H-Street. Fun little cars.

How much do the schools usually run?

Unfortunately no. The chances of me leaving work on a Saturday are about the same as me winning the lottery.

Those look like super fun cars, will probably be on my short list when I'm ready to buy my next daily driver.

Can you please recommend a school that you like or are familiar with?

http://dfwautocross.com is the best place for a schedule of all autocross related events. Looks like SCCA has a school scheduled for March 12th at Lone Star Park and ER has a school scheduled for March 19th at Mineral Wells. They don't have the fees listed but seems like the cost is normally about the same or maybe just a little more than an autocross event. Either of these will provide great instruction and a ton of seat time for the money. Each of these clubs is also running the first autocross event the next day after the school on Sunday. If you've never autocrossed before and can do it, go to the school and then to the autocross event the next day. You'll get to meet a lot of people at the school that you'll see at the autocross and you'll also get a lot a experience at the school that you'll immediately put into practice the next day.
