    Default rx7gslse sighting?

Was that you driving up Davis Blvd. to Smithfield Road in the swanky new Mazdaspeed around 6pm this evening? I tried to catch up to you, but got caught at the light crossing Mid-Cities Blvd.

And if it was you... why the heck was the top up on such a nice day?

    nope.. not me......

I've up here at home trying to engineer a gauge pod onto the top of the steering column...

I'm getting kinda close.. As of now it requires zero permenant changes... I'd like to snug it down a hair to block a bit less of the gauges, but that's gonne require a bit of trimming that plastic peice... (see if I can get a spare 1st)

I can either go sheetmetal & paint, or fiberglass...

    Prototype pics..

and yes.. I had the top down all day

Is that going to be a boost gauge??

I just happened to have an a/f gauge sitting in teh garage to use as a mockup. Still works...

If things go according to plan our yellow car is going to get a S/C this fall. I was thinking about adding this for its boost gauge. Nice small package, and I was informed I couldn't remove the 6 disk CD changer...

    How about this...

    Info from the designer

Yes... it's a VW thing... but I wonder if there's room for the electronics behind the Miata tach...

ok, that one is kinda cool... I don't really feel like tearing into the dash of my new car just yet though... I'm squeamish liek that..

this just requires popping out teh little plastic panel on teh top of the column shoud.
that and I like the accuracy of a gauge rather than just LEDs..

Got any more info on that littel stick on thing? Is it a pod, or gauge setup liek that? I'd really liek to use teh ultra-lite gauges since they match teh dash...

I'll try and get a picture of what I'm trying to copy. RE-Amemyia makes a very cool column pod ofr teh 3rd gen Rx7, but it won't fit a miata (I already tried)

    I'm preferencial to this one:

    With more info here:http://www.brperformance.com/Merchan...y_Code=035-045

I have Autometer gauges and they are not anywhere close to the Westach gauges (FM uses em too) most of the other FI people have here in DFW. My A/F gauge screws up sometimes, something about a bad ground at the ECU from the factory tat I need to fix.

Hey rx7gslse that's not to bad. I went with the bling bling two pod pillar mount, but I have one more gauge to mount and I can't seem to find a good spot. I would be interested in seeing yours when you finish it. The only thing I really need to be able to see is the check engine light since it is my visual knock sensor light.

You wired that up as your visual know sensor Justin? Mannn you got some really cool stuff.

Vent mount? that's what a lot do?

POS, I thought that looked familiar.. I've seen that on lots of WRXs...

and yeah, I'll probably end up getting a dual A-pillar pod too eventually... but that will probably wait until I start messin' with the car a bit more and need to monitor stuff. How well is the fit on yours? Did you go with the autometer one? From what I've read something on teh pillar changed with teh '03 cars so none of the current pods fit very well..

I'm still debating.. I could make my steering pod out of sheet metal and get it crinkle powdercoat here at work, but it'll still look like sheet metal. I may end up doing a fiberglass & bondo type one to get a more factory appearance that I've currently got. That woudl probably allow me to make it sit just a hair lower as well..

If I go with teh fiber/bondo approach, I'll probaby hack up an a-pillar and generic gauge pods and mold up a dual a-pillar mount as well...

What sucks is, I design plastic parts liek this all day long, but there is no where near enough volume to warrant an injection mold to be made for these things.. I've been thinking about this too much lately.

Chris that was one of the upgrades the OBDII Link came with, and it is very nice to have since I have seen the light many times but never heard any knock.

I bough the pillar mount from Moss since it replaces the entire thing and doesn't look patched together. I have an M1, and I'm not sure if they make one for the M2 yet but you may want to check. I was going to use the drivers side vent, but I am not able to see it when I am driving due to hand position and the smaller steering wheel. So there is no point adding a gauge if you can't see it while you are driving. I was going to make something that mounted to the gauge cluster cover, but it just looks so out of place.

As for not having enough volume I bet you are wrong. How many units would need to be made in order for it being worth making a mold? I know of more than a few people looking for a good way to add one more gauge.

Volume? I dunno exactly.. It woudl depend on the cost of the mold to be honest....

Autometer can do it cheaper because they probably have a ton of mold bases to work with and can just throw new cores & faces in (total cost maybe $4k?)

Requiring a new mold base to work with woudl probably add another $15k to the cost... I'm just not in that business, nor do I have the money anyway :)

But if they spend 4k, charge $40 a pop, if they sell 100 they've got their money back.. The parts only cost maybe $0.50 in material...

Could I fab the mickey mouse ears? Maybe.. Lemme see how this adventure goes 1st. My roomate has done a lot of this sorts work before, but I'm still newish...

see, if I had my choice, I'd like to get just a little plastic injection molded part that pops into the stock hole...

just liek these VW ones (but lower, that woudl block too much)

just saying if I had to do an a-pillar and mold them in...

I woouldn't paint it like that, but teh whole molded one peice thing is what I'm looking at. If it was a stock color you'd not notice it so much

eh, who knows.. I'm just avoiding working this afternoon :)
