Thread: Car And Driver / PRO Challenge

  1. #1

Default Car And Driver / PRO Challenge

Coming to Dallas, February 25-26, 2006 and Houston October 22-23, 2005.

1.8L LSD equipped Miatas are in GS3 (with 450 allowed modification points - sorry kids, the R componud guys will have enough points to cover shocks and tires unlike the original rules proposal) or Sport 3 (with 550 allowed modification points if running in GS3).

This looks like a lot of fun as the competition includes autocross (50% of your points total), skidpad and drag racing (50% combined).

for details. Let's plan ahead on making a great Miata showing...

    The rules are kinda confusing.

Looks like any 1.6L Miatas, or 1.8L Miatas without an LSD can run in Sport 3 (like STS2). However, 1.8L LSD Miatas can only run in Grand Sport 3... with fewer modification points (450) compared to the 1.6L and 1.8L open-diffed cars, which are allowed 550 mod points.

Looks like my car justs squeaks by under the GS3 points limit in C Stock trim:

    250 pts - R compound tires
    100 pts - non-standard single-adjustable shocks
    25 pts - non-standard front swaybar
    15 pts - non-standard exhaust
50 pts - addition of roll bar or cage ( <---- what's this crap? I add 50lbs of dead weight to the chassis in the interests of safety and it counts against me? )

    440 pts total.

I'll give it a shot and see what it's like.

yeah, I'll probably pass on this one...

MSM is classed with M coupe, S2000, Boxster S, MR2 Turbo and the 911s... That's not gonna happen..

Without digging too deep into teh rules, it appears that a well built/driven NON zo6 C5 could be pretty compeditive... As they're a class down..

I'd be interested in knowing how they will run a championship event here, and an event in Detroit the same day...plus, there's an ER event here the same weekend.
The event this past weekend had 36 entries I think...I'd pay my 30 bucks to run ER, with some chance of winning at least part of it back, as opposed to paying the 90.00/up entry fee to that event. But, I'll be working at TMS, so neither of them are an option...

Hmm... guess I wouldn't send in that entry fee just yet:

Precision Racing Organization craps out on ANOTHER season...

Several big changes are in store for the CAR and DRIVER RACE SERIES in '06. In order to prepare for 2006 and to present the best possible event experience for each and every participant, we are going to reschedule the remaining 2005 dates to 2006.
The last time they made this announcement, they dropped off the face of the earth for two years.

And I forgot to add, they had a whole segment on the Car & Driver show on Spike just this last weekend... with the PRO rep touting how great their group was/is.

Funny thing is - the event they filmed that segment at had less entries than a typical local S2000 autocross...

Not many of us are inclined to pay 100 dollar entry fees, especially considering the convoluted classing system. I know Steve, and he lost a ton of money when he tried to start this thing up. While it's not a difficult task to get 150 drivers to participate in a local event at 25.00 average entry fee, my guess is that less than a quarter of those drivers would pony up the hundred necessary to play with PRO.

BTW, the latest Car and Driver mag touts a new autox challenge, scheduled for 23/24 of this month in Indianapolis. My guess is that Steve and the PRO folk will be the organizers. This particular event pits competitors against C/D staff using their cars, including a Viper, and the winners walking away with a 5K watch...

That was my issue with it.
