Thread: Hola! I'm here, lurking.

    Default Hola! I'm here, lurking.

I am bigdstars (randy). Insane Stars fan, new Miata owner as of Sept. 03. Mathews2k (Andy) got me hooked onto Miatas, then he sold his, and I helped him find a better one. I basically lurk in Miata.net and post smart ass remarks from time to time there. I will be watching this forum and possibly waiting for some kind of fun run or something... I'm not too serious about racing, but could get roped into it maybe.

Again, hola, and good luck to all.

Miata: 92 silver, hardtop with just a few mods, looking for more.

    Welcome, bigDstars.

If you think you could get roped into racing, you need to come on out and give it a try! I promise you you'll have a good time.

Keep an eye on the Autocross Events section of the forum - the local DFW season doesn't really get up and running until late February, but between then and late November there are over 30 local autocrosses held by various different clubs. I guarantee you you'll find at least one (or ten) of us at just about every one of them.

Well we will try not to judge you due to your association with Andy :P (Joke!) I'm glad you were able to help him get his new one; I figured he'd be back! Sounds like a decent car!

    Welcome Aboard!

    Default Hey Andy!

I've got an oil filter and a set of plugs for a 1.6 Miata, for cheap. Maybe $20 for you! It's high quality OEM! :afro: Go Holly's Miata!

They're great plugs! Andy gave them to me when he sold his other Miata. I'm just offering them back at the "friend" price!

Hey, I've got a $17 spark plug that I'll let you have for $15.00 .

Really. I paid $17.00 for one spark plug from Mazdaspeed! I thought I was buying a set...

That's funny... mine were $1.65 a piece... Maybe we need to do a class on "How to Use the Mazda Motorsports Development Program for Fun and Savings"

Real question - I thought I read on a post at Miata.net that an official Mazda thermostat was somewhere in the neighborhood of $38. Can that be for real? I've never heard of a regular thermostat costing above $5.

Of course I'm not really trying to sell plugs for $20. That's just Andy's price.

The OEM thermostat is different than a stock AutoZone unit; it's a two stage unit. I bought one a while back and it wasn't $38.00! Where are you getting your parts!

Try these guys! about $16.00 each

My car warms up way too slow. I started a thread a couple of weeks ago and someone claimed the OEM thermostat was somewhere in the upper 30's.... I just replaced clutch slave cylinder with non-OEM part for about $25 - new, not rebuilt. OEM from Mazda was closer to $75. I'll take my chance on the cheaper part in this case as it's easy to get to. I'd do the same with a thermostat. I will spend money where I need to and it makes sense though.

I moved the rest of this discussion over to Miata Tech - largely because I wanted to make sure I knew how before POS called me Mr. Computer again...

BigD, where did you get the slave cylinder from? I think mine could use a new one.
