Thread: Aerating Lawns

    Default Aerating Lawns

Is there any benefit to aerating lawns? There's a $35 deal going on in Frisco... I might do it if there exists a legit reason. I've seen it done on tons of golf courses but those are ultra high traffic situations. Well homeowners?

I rent the machine from Home Depot along with several of my neighbors every spring, so cash outlay is like $10.00. Seems to help quite a bit, especially if you fertilize directly after you aerate the yard! Watch for those pesky sprinkler heads yo!

Thankfully I don't have a sprinkler system... although I have been thinking of installing one. I've helped a friend install one in the yard of his then west Texas home. Nothing but small boulders and sand... ugh.

From what I can tell, the process should be fairly straight forward here in this north Texas clay.

I've done the rental thing too. That machine will give you a work out! (Especially when you need to do a 180) If parts of your yard get a lot of traffic and/or the ground is really compacted down, that's where it will do the most benefit.

No, but really, after a good fertilizer, perhaps some seed? Or is that more of an early spring deal.

If you seed this late in the year, you are going to have to do a good bit of watering to get some benefit from it. You can't let the seed or young grass get to dry, so regular watering will have to be in your game plan until it gets established.
