Go with the Belkin line of surge protectors. They have great, great customer support should anything happen to your equipment. Their products are awesome... I'll be picking up a power filter/surge protector for the DLP/surround system this month.
Need to buy a very high quality surge protector to protect new PC, Xbox, some stereo equipment, etc. Must have DSL line protection.

Do any of you guys follow this stuff? Is there a "gold standard" for these things? My parents have a very good one that Ultimate sold them with their HDTV (smart), but it seems to have its own fans and is pretty loud. I'd rather not have the fan noise, but will accept it if necessary.
Thanks in advance,
S.

Might I recommend the clean power if you think it's needed.
My house was built in the 30's and I get lots of small surges that dim and brighten the lights for a sec. At times these would make the screen wobble a bit or show some fuzz.
With the jump to HD I picked up this one

for about 200 bucks. The stage 2 clean power regulates the AC voltage coming out of the plug and evens out the peaks and drops. It's got little lights on it telling you what power it's getting and what it's sending out.
It has worked flawlessly and I highly recommend it although I'm sure other manufacturers have the same technology. My understanding is that the sharp picture of the new HDTVs and the corresponding technologies are very susceptible to power flux. Not sure if it would benefit a PC or X-box.

I appreciate the info. I ultimately decided on one of these.

It seems to offer power "cleaning" like you describe with the Monster Cable unit. Our house was built in the 1950s, so, like you, we get a lot of little power dips and jumps. I wanted something that would deliver rock steady power. It looks like this will do the job.
If it doesn't, I'll return it and try the Monster Cable unit.![]()
