It says that it is the only one that the company will be making in Platinum. I suspect this is all about marketing. The auction drives customers to there website where they will likely sell many of the $99 non-platinum versions. The fact that someone actually bid on it is probably upsetting to them. I suspect that they hoped to re-run the auction on a monthly basis to help create traffic.
I just did the math on weight.... assuming they melted down and sold off the millings, the raw material is worth about $38k. If the knob didn't sell, they could melt it down get most of the investment back. This looks like a pretty low risk marketing plan.![]()
