Punched a hole in the hood to create a TCB Extrator hood. It's fairly easy to do.
This matches the hole I punched in the nose to let more air in. I based my design on Keith Verges' Yellow Turbo Miata.
This is no show car process, but I hope it solves my cooling problem. The real cause is the A/C unit. I am trying to have a car that I can have A/C and tear up the track.
No results yet. Yesterday before I punched the hole, I was pushing over 116 degrees celcius water temps.
I hope that I can get back out to the track before outside air temps start to drop to see if this is improving the cooling process.

Once again I am defeated by the gods of no ability to post. I know I know, for a small fee of $XXXX I can get the ability to post pics. Frankly, If I had extra funds lying around I would not have taken a jigsaw to my hood - I would have bougt an extractor hood.
Here is my choice, pay MME for picture posting or take another lapping session at MSR. The thought of posting picks of my handywork is interesting, but I'd rather go racing.
Ahh,the choices we make.

I look forward to seeing your handy work. I had overheating issues at Hallett last weekend. Pulling the thermostat helped, but it still got hot in the afternoon, which took some of the fun out of it, slow down, go fast, slow down, go fast, drive through the hot pits, drive fast, and so on. Diluting the antifreeze to water ratio, helped a little too. I temps got as high as 108 and I'd back out of it.![]()

Well, the swiss cheeze effect is even better now that I have the extractor hood in full heat sucking mode. Big hole in the front and nice exhaust through the extractor.
I can hardly keep the temps up enough to do tuning on the link. I have disabled the always on fans I am running from 76 - 86 degrees celcius. FINALLY!!!
Nice swirling columns of heat rise up from the extractor while I'm sitting still and I am tweeking the aero to ensure there is a low pressure zone ahead of the extractor hole.

Lightness? What's that? I drive a PRHT!
Well, I've been testing for a few days now. Here are my subjective results.
The additional hole in the nose helped bypass the A/C condensor and Intercooler providnig high pressure air directly to the radiator. The mod was somewhat effective although providing more air to the nose did not solve the problem in itself. However when the temps get above 105 Celcius even low speed air seemed to cool the radiator core down quicker. If you do not like the look of an additional hole, I would skip this mod unless you are road racing.
The extractor hood worked GREAT. When traveling at low speed a column of very hot air streams out of the vent especially on the hot (turbo) side of the car. It literally looked like there was a fire under the hood. At higher speed, it keeps the temps in a more normal operating temp. Temps did rise under boost, but I actually had temps DROP at stoplights. That NEVER happened before. I still expect to run fans always ON for the hottest part of the summer and during race events.
Finally, the BIG winner is the transmission. The tunnel is MUCH cooler since I added the extractor hood.
