Yes I have Firefox. Yes I use Firefox. Having said that, when I use IE and then exit it, IEXPLORE.EXE still stays active in Task Manager. WTF?

Spybot is free, Sparky. It's what I use, along with Lavasoft's Ad-Aware.

Microsoft's anti-spyware stuff (currently free) is actually quite good. It's especially good to use once you get your system clean. We use it at work.

I hate to say this but I actually rebuild my PC (well, format the harddrive and reinstall everything) about once a year. It's sorta like cutting off your finger to get rid of a hangnail, but that's the best way to get rid of all the accumulated junk that gets put on your PC.
The upside is, you free up tons of harddrive space and your system runs faster. The downside is it takes a good long day to do it all (from backing up files through reloading them after all the software installs are complete), and you'll undoubtedly forget to back up something and lose it. The thing most people forget to back up are their internet favorites and their fonts.

Need to introduce you to Norton Ghost.... Asside from the backup/restore of your personal files, it can handle rebuilding the drive in around 20 minutes or less (depending on how much stuff you install on it).

Hijackthis.exe is a good utility found on the internet to see the hooks in registry and in INI files for IE. It will give you an under the covers view of what is going on with IE. You need to be careful using it though as it can cause system issues if you get too excited when removing hooks. HijackThis
Turns out the 'Yahoo Toolbar' was the culprit. I uninstalled it and that solved the problem.
