I paid to have my bar installed. When the retractor stopped retracting, I took it back to the dealer. They wanted as much to remove the bar as it had cost to install it. They would not reinstall the bar. They would not sell me the seatbelt.

Hiley of Arlington made it good, but they would not alter the replacement unit. I called HD, and they insisted the mod was necessary. After looking at the two, I really couldn't see how the mod was going to improve anything. It retracts more smoothly than the modified unit on the right side.

BTW, if you ever need a seatbelt for your car, don't have the dealer express ship it from Japan. It will get to the West Coast overnight and then sit in customs for several days. It contains an explosive device!

I recommend disconnecting the battery before you start the installation. From Onethings experience it would appear there is no need to modify the retractors on the newer cars.
A day late, etc., but just for the record...

My seatbelt did not go boom. It just failed to retract one day. Pulled it all the way out trying to get it to retract, and it just lay there. The only issue I had with the explosives was in doing an overniter from Japan. Homeland Security sat on it on the West Coast for a few days.

I didn't have a digicam and frankly we forgot to take any pics.

Rollbar is in and as always we had a few hurdles but the bar is in and secure.

Tim can fill you in on the details. This makes my 9th rollbar install!

Kudos to Black Roadster for the help today.

    Lessons learned:

    1. The window defroster wires had to be rerouted slightly behind the drivers seat.
    2. There is a huge wiring junction box behind the driver seat that had to be disconnected.
    3. Under the passenger wheel guard, the breather assembly had to be moved temporarily to allow the bottom plate to be installed.

It was a very smooth process except for the very end. It seems one of the rear driver seat bolts was stripped on removal so a tap will be needed before replacing the bolt. No major problems at all. I will post a pic tomorrow.
