    Question Fredericksburg, Texas

Planning a long weekend for the wife's birthday down there. Any recommendations on places to eat, things to see and/or do? Thanks in advance!

Yes: bring $$$ and leave room in the car to bring home things you will inevitably purchase. It's a charming town, but there's just so much there to buy! Oh, and make sure you hit Rustlin Robs. They have samples of everything they sell. You can make a meal out of a trip there -- seriously. Good fun. Then find a nice bench to sleep on while your wife shops.

Footnote: Last time we went to Fredericksburg, we saw an Elise and a Gallardo within about an hour of each other.

Better take a laptop so you can work your mainframe maintenance window.

I'll second the emotion that Fredericksburg is a really nice quaint 'ol Texas town. If you are a WWII buff -- or even mildly interested -- the Nimitz Museum there is really pretty good. If you'd rather spend the day hiking in some pretty countryside, go out to Enchanted Rock. Of course, Fredericksburg is an old German-American settlement, and there are a bunch of nice German Restaurants and cafe's -- none are as good as the Bavarian Grill, but they all have their charm.

If you go as far as Bandera, check out "The Cowboy Bar"...great Cajun Music and food across the street owned by the same folks, real nice people.

if you are taking the miata, you could take a small detour down highway 2222 in austin it turns into bullick hollow road, then runs into 2769. small 2 lane roads with tight corners and hills (if youve been to austin you know)they go around lake travis. it is a GREAT road if you like twisties.

its also very beautiful out by the lake. i got some really neat pictures from on top of this monstrous hill, last time i went down there.

You just missed Octoberfest. For a nice side trip go check out LBJs Ranch.

... and there's plenty of wineries that offer free tastings and tours. Not like the CB vendors around here.
