Hope you find a new door soon. That's one great story. You should send it in to Car & Driver's 10 Best contest and try to win a t-shirt, or something.

Damn sorry to hear about that. I think that tops my embarrasing mishap earlier this year! I had to get a new hood/bumper/fix front rails thanks to an 8mph parking garage distraction. fatigue and add don't mix well lol

lol not that pretty! was a long day, no sleep, no food, just got off work....kid almost ran in front of me....little pole sticking up a few feet....doh

I must say, I was surprised at how weak the Miata is. I was honestly going less than 10mph and according the shop my friends and I use the damages where around $2400! The guy could've played with the numbers to total it or not total it depending on if I was using insurance! Luckily I knew the guy so they fixed everything except for paint for only $600 and I got an entire front clip from Mazda Haven for $200. Needless to say, full coverage on the car now!

And that, folks, is why insurance rates are so damn high! I'm not indicting you or your friend at all, but your point is universally applicable. "Playing with the numbers" gets you a totalled car or it gets you an $800 repair. A rather big difference.

Well, I got used parts and am friends with the guy at the shop so he did the work and gave me a buddy discount and did not do any paint work. The car is not perfectly repaired but is good enough to look okay. If you look under the bumper on jack stands you can see it's not perfect, but is fine with me as long as the bumper/hood/fenders line up okay. The paint cost alone on the estimate was around $600 for the hood/bumper/fenders. Paint is very expensive unless you go to Macco (sp?) or do like I did and freakin spray paint it! Actually looks pretty good!

Yep, as I stated, I pulled forward enough to get my tire out of the bumpers that you drive onto, then the machine quit. I thought I was clear to get out for just a moment. I was badly mistaken.

BTW, new door is on the car now and lined up. I just need transfer the lock, wire it up, then straighten the fender and take it to the body shop.
