Thread: I want to be an Autocrosser!

Talking I want to be an Autocrosser!

OK, I never did make it to an autocross last year, and my New Years resolution is to change that. I have made it clear with the that I will be trying to make at least one a month, and I really want to stick to that.

Where do I start? I won't be able to do both S2000 on 2/18, and PCA 101 on 2/19, so what do y'all recommend? I like the idea of S2000 because I know a lot of you will be there, but I remember you guys recommending PCA 101 last year.

I plan on using up my Azenis 215 learning the basics before I put my new Azenis 615s on. I am in desperate need of a Fluid change tech day this month as well. What else should I be thinking of?

Have you AX'd before? The PCA 101 school is really good if your fresh meat.

Look forward to seeing you come out to play! You going to drive the Nash or the Miata??

The closest I have come to autocrossing is Zoom Zoom live, so lets say no. I'm thinking I would be better off in the Miata, but hey... an 1800 lb 250hp Met might be interesting if we could figure out how to get some decent suspension under it!

Bring the Miata ( ) and come out to an S2K event. You will get 8 runs on a long challenging course with a cap on entries! Best AX deal in our area.

Thanks Sammmy! I don't think I have ever seen that article... One of the consequences of bookmarking the forum rather than the main page!

Don't mention it! I'm sure you're not alone in forgetting there is a 'real' website here along with the forums. Back to AX....there will be several of us at any given event and I'm sure someone will show you the ropes your first (or first few) times out! We've all been there.

I'd recommend the S2k event as well. The PCA schools are great... but you can probably get almost as much out of an S2k event.

Don't forget that instructors are available at the S2k events - either lugnutjon or I will be more than happy to ride along with you and offer feedback, as well as let you ride along with us to observe. We'll also typically take a lap in your own car to give you a feel for what it is capable of.

In fact, I'd love to instruct you, if you're interested. I've never driven a supercharged 1.6 before, so I'd love to see how your car feels in a controlled environment.

Thanks Iain... I would love to have you instruct me.

I just tried to sign up for 2/18, but it looks like registration isn't open yet. How long before an event does registration usually open?

A ride along will definately help you. I still consider myself a novice in a Miata around the cones, and I wish I would have asked Iain to ride with me sooner. His hints definately helped.

I will probably show up at the S2k event as well. I have been wanting to get involved in auotox and I guess this is as good a time as any. I signed up for the PCA 101 but will I need it if I do the Mineral Wells event the day prior?

The PCA 101 is a great school if you have never AX'd, it does an awsome job teaching the basics.
