I pulled the AC, too. I considered pulling the PS, but I believe it is beneficial to have for autocrossing. I wish I could pull the soft top off, but I'm waaay too cheap to invest in a hardtop. Maybe someday I'll remove it and just take my chances with the weather! Go for all the lightness you can muster.![]()

My car exceeds my driving ability. That's the only possible explanation.

Pull the top out and ditch... you won't miss it.
I remember seeing some adapter or whatnot that allows you to pop the soft top out quickly when you get to the track. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Sounds like a neat idea...
Holy crap there is no way I could live without the AC! Give me snow with the top down but 85 degrees and up and I have the cold button on full blast!

Mark52, shouldn't you be telling me to add lead weights to my car or something. You must have something good to surprise me with this season!![]()
Dave04, you make a very true statement. I wouldn't mind losing a couple pounds.
Bean, the top stays until I get some form of hard top.
Icepenguin66, I read on the pointy board that it's still a good amount of work to get the top out even if you have that kit.

Pull the PS and AC, you wont miss the PS, if you're ayou might miss the AC. My '97 was down to 2300 lbs with me (150 at the time) and 1/8 tank of gas when I had it lightened out in CSP form.

I keep hearing mixed reviews on power vs. manual steering.Originally Posted by BigDmiata

Mine was a depowered PS. I personally loved the way it felt on the AX course.![]()

I'd have to get a manual rack, the depowered PS rack isn't allowed in SP.Originally Posted by BigDmiata

I'd think with your little girlie arms you may benefit from power steering!Originally Posted by Miatamoto

oh yeah, i guess you're right, i forgot that it's not legal in CSP (despite I ran it that way) I can't say how well an actual manual rack would feel. But if they allowed depowered racks in CSP, I'd say go for it.![]()

The next time you're at an S2k event, you're welcome to take a fun run in mine, to get a feel for what a manual rack Miata feels like.Originally Posted by Miatamoto
Personally I prefer it - the power rack feels overboosted to me. It is a bit of a hindrace in really tight slaloms, but other than that I prefer it.
Remember, the top dog Miatas prior to the arrival of the '99 were all manual rack cars - all R Package cars had a manual rack.

for years i had the belt off my PS, once some buddies complained on thier way from a formula D event "i cant counter steer in time!!" i bought a new belt for it. its ok (depowered) untill you really need it. (i heel/toe, apex, smoke, AND answered the phone once, it was certainly beneficial at that time) parking is alot easier, and i dont street race anymore, so PS isnt that much of a set back for me Dayammmm im starting to sound old. ima go remove that belt again...
on a young dumb and full of.. innocence not, i was on springcreek, towards the tollway, went under the bridge, made a left onto the 3 lane svc road -at a good speed, gave it a lil too much gas and got ALOT of angle. wide eyed and countersteering the fastest i could, (then the other way) i caught it. now when i relive the event, im thankfull for the PS. ok its gonna stay...
