Default Ford plant bans competitors' cars from lot

Saw this story on MSNBC http://msnbc.msn.com/id/11057921/

Crazy thing is many of the Car Manufactures have been doing this for years, back when My Grandfather was working for GM in Dayton, Ohio, he had to park in a "remote" lot if he drove his '66 Ford Bronco to work, but if he drove Grandma's Rivera he could park up in the front row!

didn't a few of the Chrysler facilities do this a year or so ago?

I used to take so much shiet from random people in the parking lot when I drove my MAZDA Rx7 to work at the FORD plant...

Apparently most of the line workers didn't seems to know the Ford owned Mazda... even though we were making Tributes right there!

I tried parking my dad's miata at the GM plant once, when my car wouldn't start due to a dead alternator at 5am.... That wasn't so wise. I was left a nasty warning note never to do that again..

Sounds as crazy like the story about a year ago where a guy working for Coca-Cola got fired for being spotted drinking a can of Pepsi while on the job.

They call it "brand preservation", but to a sense, it's a little ridiculous.

    Did you mean: ridiculous??

Figure if your earning you entire living off building a certain brands product I'd think you would own said product, but there are always exceptions to the rule. My Grandfather got the Bronco the year before the release of the Blazer.

My girlfriend works for PepsiCo... let's just say if a Pepsi product is available and we're out in public... she drinks it. If all they have is Coke products, she'll drink it only if it's in an unmarked glass.

Plant manager Rob Webber announced Monday that, starting Feb. 1, the parking lot may be used only by employees who drive vehicles built by Ford or one of its subsidiaries.
By this I take it you could park a Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, or Aston Martin.

    So would that include a Capri, RX-3, 240D, XJ6, 110 or DB3?

What about my new Mazda MPV that was actually built in Japan?

What if I had an Deuce Coupe with a Chevy motor?

How about a Shelby Cobra kit car with a 302 in it or even a Miata with a 5.0 conversion? Heck, could I park my 95 Miata there? Ford didn't have controlling interest in Mazda in 95, just partial interest.

I'm glad I don't work there. It's so damn confusing!
