It's pretty ballsie asking that much for water logged vehicle...
Is it just me or does the price of this car seem rather high based on it's recent history??

Well, the origional listing price was $20K... even with the water damage, it was probably worth that for parts value. This is why I rarely buy stuff on Ebay... people bid it up to the point of being crazy.Originally Posted by Treibenschnell
On the other hand, you have to give them some credit for being honest and giving the true history of the car. How many cars are being sold around here where they aren't being so honest.

I don't think it is that surprising. It is a factory Fuel Injected '58. That makes it extra rare and collectible. It is 100% original. You also don't need to worry about the flood damage causing the quarter panels to rust out.![]()
Just checked the production numbers:
1958 corvettes produced: 9168
w/ 283ci 250hp Fuel Injection: 504
w/ 283ci 290 hp Fuel Injection: 1007
It would be worth way more if it hadn't been under water... "We are not sure how deep the water was but it had to be somewhere in the dash."
It will come with a salvage title which will keep it from ever being worth as much as on that didn't get flooded. Most Corvette guys are crazy about History on these classics and Katrina really isn't going to help this poor car.![]()
Wonder what the reserve is?? US $48,100.00 (Reserve not met)
Interesting stuff in the boot area. Looks like big black mold spots...
In any case, the car will have to be stripped totally bare and EVERYTHING cleaned and treated before putting it back together. If it was in any kind of salt or sewage laden water it will be full of corrosion in every nook and cranny, not to mention a health hazard from the sewage.
It looks pretty, but will still need to be taken down to the frame and redone to make sure it won't rot out underneath.
Not to mention the cost of redoing the wiring harness.
All-in-all it would be worth it if the buyer can get a good price. Hell, there are plenty of states to run it through to wash the title if they wanted to be sneaky after rebuilding it. That's what will end up happening to way too many Katrina cars.

Lightness? What's that? I drive a PRHT!
sold at $58,000- with the flood damage fixed, it will re-sell for much higher than that.
I'd bet the Salvage title will severely limit it's future value.Originally Posted by RX7-2nr
