Thread: Rolbar install

    Default Rolbar install

Anyone avalible on Sat. for a impromt tech day. I've got my rollbar to install and decided to just put it in instead of powdercoating it. Anyone want to help? I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to installing it and don't know what I'll need. The help would be great and it would let us all get together again since that last tech day I was at was a blast.

Did you ever find any instruction about how to install it since it's not the run of the mill Hard Dog bar that most of us have experience with, you ever figure out what it was??

You have the backing plates and all the hardware needed??

    Instructions are for sissies.

Actually, Autopowers and their ilk are relatively easy. If you've done a HD, it's familiar territory.

I can't host, but I'll try to be there. Who's got the bit?

I've got all the backing plates just got to pick up one or two washers. And from what I can gather it is an autopower that was made for the monster miatas.

The actual install is not that bad. I did mine. Just take your time and get an extra pair of hands. Make sure you have the long drill bit. The right side wrenches help too.

Take your time in cutting the trim pieces and carpet. You can always cut more but can not put it back.

I have to work this weekend and can't come. Don't worry, you will be fine. You only need the second pair of hands for 15-30 minutes to lift the bar into the car and help tighten up the bolts.

    Good luck!

Same here, and probably Galveston for some of that time as well, but not for work.

It is easier to drill the holes from below. I drill a pilot hole to locate/position the backing plate first. This also keep you from drilling the holes too close to the frame rails. Have someone keep an eye on the top to keep you from hitting the wiring hasrness.

On the NB car the fuel filter/line is close to the area you drill, so it is safer to drill from below so that you see what you are doing.

No didn't get to do it today. My apartment complex did not like the idea of me taking my car apart and cutting on it in their parking lot.

Usually easier to get forgiveness than permission. Too late now!

You could use my garage but you need to bring tools and some guys to help. I'm not up for a rollbar install anytime soon unless it includes some $$$ in my hand. I'll gladly supervise as I've done several just don't want to get my hands dirty on another rollbar install anytime soon.

You busy Thursday or Friday? I'm off those two days... I'll be wiring up my new workshop but can take some time to help you install the rollbar.

Make sure you have all of the nut/bolts and that they are rust free. You will also need some lockwashers or some nylon locking nuts. It would be a bad thing if the backing plates fell out on the road.

It would be a faster install if you disassembled the rear deck before coming over. I have tin snips and a dremel tool for doing all of the metal cutting... as well as a long drill bit for putting the holes in the body.
